“The kids get it,” Lundy says. “They’re not trying to be nostalgic for something they never experienced. They’re trying to escape what they experience every day.”
not obvious, but a tiny nod to escapements may be hiding here...

"That's the sound of typing. It's the cadence of creativity. It's the percussion of punctuation. <br /> That sound you'll get lost in it. It becomes a rhythm. It becomes a music that will not only tell you—and the other people in the other room—that you're working, it will also spur you on to other areas of imagination that you will eventually create and record forever on your typewriter."<br /> —Tom Hanks in _Secret Talent Theatre" episode "Tom Hanks Changes the Ribbon on a Typewriter" for Vanity Fair on 2018-02-28 [00:02:16]

While described as "well worn", most typewriters with plastic keys don't really show heavy wear, so it's not surprising that "You can still read them."
This is a museum curator creating a feeling of typewriter nostalgia by way of unintended misinformation.

Each letter I type releases a thunderous CLICK and then another and it’s a CLACK. I’ve become addicted to the sound. I can’t sleep. I’m up all night exercising my new found celestial harp

THE MAGIC OF BELLE ISLE (Magnolia Pictures, 2012) features an Underwood standard at about the 31 minute mark.
Morgan Freeman says: "Look at that machine. I like that you have to write a bit slower on a manual. Like the way it sounds. I like the way that the letters bite into the paper. I like that you can feel there's a genuine human being, doing the work."<br /> (doublecheck the exact quote)
