My answer (Trump's position): The Constitution states clearly that the President has the right to nominate the judges for the Supreme Court. Then the legislative branch will vote to decide whether that nominee receives the agreement of the majority to become the next judge or not. So the power is not placed into the President's hand only, but also depends on the legislative branch. Also, in the legislative branch, Democrats controls the House and Republicans controls the Senate. You can see that my political party is not controlling this whole branch. So you cannot say that Republicans is spreading their power. This is the way we keep balance to our central government's system. So you cannot say that I'm abusing my power. Nominating a judge is my right, and I see that Justice Barrett deserves it based on her accomplishments, so I nominated her. That's all.
