    1. In 2016, 13 percent of children living at the poverty level or below had three or more adverse experiences, compared to 10 percent among children with family incomes from 101 to 200 percent of the poverty level, and 5 percent among children from households with incomes more than twice the poverty level. Similarly, among children at poverty level or below, 51 percent had no adverse experiences, compared to 59 percent among children with family incomes from 101 to 200 percent of the poverty level, and 73 percent among children living in higher-income households, in 2016

This statement can be very confusing to read but it seems as is that students who are dealing with at least one adverse experience seem to be struggling with more compared to students who have zero, even at the poverty level or above. I think stress from all these things can cause families in poverty to choose coping or bad ideas to help with their issues but only brings them down more and more causing trauma and adversity in their families.

    2. Non-Hispanic black children and youth are more likely than their non-Hispanic white and Hispanic peers to have had three or more adverse experiences (17 percent, compared to 10 and 11 percent, respectively, in 2016)

This statistic is very sad to read and even think about when it comes to our future of having these kids in our classrooms and seeing the disruptive behavior they could bring because they might possibly "see it at home"

    1. Economic hardship and divorce or separation of a parent or guardian are the most common ACEs reported nationally, and in all states.

Many students and friends I know have struggled with this and constantly bring up things from their past that others cannot relate to because of divorcing parents or not being able to afford things

    1. Culturally responsive educators routinely reflect on their own life experiences and membership in various identity groups (i.e., those assigned by race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and gender), and they ask themselves how these factors influence their beliefs and actions

I think this is very important in understanding and continuing to grow into our curriculum with the new styles of teaching coming out more and more. Students deserved to be heard even at a young age in the respect we are asked to be given as future teachers or faculty members

    2. Moving forward therefore requires that educators and those who support their efforts have a coherent understanding of what culturally responsive teaching does and does not entail.

This is important to understand with the faculty and staff to all be on the same page when trying to understand and learn into a new teaching style

    1. But in many big cities and across the South, students remain in districts that are deeply segregated.

The south and Midwest is where we see the least amount of diversity mainly because of our past history and the amounts of people who have not venture to new parts of the country and stayed close to where they grew up.

    2. Diversity is a measure of the overall racial makeup of a school district. A district is considered diverse when no one race constitutes more than 75 percent of the school system’s student body overall.

Diversity is the foundation of creating equal societies and helping change our thoughts and views on things.

    1. For instance, I am right handed, and in turn, have never been forced to write from a desk that is not fitted for me. It’s a privilege I have by nature of my birth.

This class made me realize that all privileges are different and they have not always been just catered to the typical privileges we hear about daily. Many things are privileges and we dont even realize it.

    2. The process of becoming comfortable and open to acknowledging, critiquing, and accepting my own privilege hasn’t been easy. It didn’t happen all at once.

I think this is a great way to put it for other students because not everybody has the same privileges as others and it shows when people start expressing theirself.
