    1. As a plain old URI, http://purl.uniprot.org/uniprot/P99999 can be added to web pages, publications and other repositories without any further explanation.

      Yes this is why projects fail, they expect that other people will do things and change their infrastructure without a clear reason why. The LSID sounds really complex for many projects, which unlike UNIPROT have a lot less staff and expertise. There are over 2500 databases in biomedicine, many assign identifiers publicly.

      Yes this is moving in the direction, but I would not say "it is here"....plenty of data repositories have no ids!
