    1. 4. distinguish types of content - good and bad practice

Youtube's homepage can be overwhelming with the amount of recommended videos, which are not categorized. It can be difficult for users to find videos under the same category without directly searching for a specific prompt. However, youtube has added a youtube shorts feature for those who would like to watch short videos, similar to tiktok or instgram reels. This can be helpful to users who would like to watch short form content, rather than search for longer videos.

    2. 3. website format and accessibility - good practice

youtube is a very simple and easy to navigate website. The search bar is accessible and easy to use/find. The other feature tabs are all laid out on the side (settings, subscriptions, history, account). There aren't links that redirect users to separate web pages, which can be confusing for some.

    3. 1. closed captions - good and bad practice and 2. adjustability features - good practice

youtube offers closed captions on videos, aimed for users who struggle with hearing and offer language options for non native speakers. Anyone can use these features. However, the auto generated captions aren't consistently accurate and can mislead those who cannot hear and differentiate. This can cause misinformation or confusion for users. Users can turn these on and off, customize languages, or adjust the size. This is also an example of appropriate text alternatives, which is another good practice.
