The taxes and charges imposed in the Ottoman-controlled Middle East ultimately created an incentive for European merchants to seek other ways of reaching Asia and trading without these high costs
Because the Ottoman decided to tax high on trade values, it led European merchants to find other ways to trade goods with out having to pay tax or as much tax.
