I remember hearing (but can't confirm it) that Aristotle taught rhetoric last, after he was sure his students would be "good men." If he had doubts, he wouldn't teach them rhetoric, because he didn't want them corrupting the polis. Again, I can't confirm that, but it sounds pretty ancient Greek to me.
