A study of 103 patients with VHL retinal manifestations and 108 patients without VHL retinal manifestations extracted from the French VHL database revealed that the number of hemangioblastomas appeared higher in patients who had a substitution when compared with patients with a truncated protein. Detected by PCR and SSCP, this frameshift mutation (c.211insT, p.P71Lfs*61) was found in a 1 patient, without retinal hemangioblastomas, but other manifestations are not clearly stated. No family information or relation was provided. This is possibly previously published in PMID: 15300849

    1. Molecular and clinical analysis of 126 French VHL families tested for renal involvement revealed 92 different mutations. 90 of these families had renal involvement. The p.P71Lfs*61 (c.211_212insT) germline variant of the VHL gene was detected in a family (ID 96). Members 5997 and 5993 have unknown renal involvement. Member 5999 presented with mild renal disease. The paper states that this family is previously reported in PMID 12202531, where 1 patient with this mutation is reported and assumed to be part of this family.
