    1. In a study of 426 unrelated VHL patients, 111 were discovered to have alterations in the VHL gene. 18 novel variants were identified in VHL patients, but none were present in 200 unaffected control individuals. DNA samples from peripheral blood leukocytes underwent polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification, denaturing high-performance liquid chromatography (DHPLC), and direct sequence analysis of the entire coding sequence and intron-exon boundaries. The R107Pfs*25 (c.314dup) germline variant of the VHL gene was found in a 16 year old patient (ID 225) presenting with CNS hemangioblastoma. The variant is noted as Familial (i.e. “transmission of the variant from a parent”). Sibling was analyzed but details are not provided. The variant was reported as c.314_315insC and was mapped to c.314dup. There is co-segregation of disease with mutation.
