    2. 93 families examined at the Clinical Center of the National Institutes of Health (Bethesda, MD) underwent genetic testing for germline mutations of the VHL gene. Whole blood was extracted and genomic DNA was amplified by PCR and products were sequences using a cycle sequencing kit with dye-labeled terminators and automatically sequenced. This frameshift mutation was found in a VHL type 1 family (lineage 175). The variant was reported as c.393delG (AF010238.1) and was mapped to V62Cfs*5 (c.180del) (NM_000551.3). This family is stated as being previously reported in PMID 7728151 and/or 8956040. Both these reports include a family presenting with this variant and it is unclear if one or both coincide with the current family.

    1. 56 male patients age 12 to 76 years, from 40 families with VHL were examined as part of a larger screening program for VHL. VHL mutations were identified in 16 families. Individual patient phenotype-genotype data was not available, but the mutations found and whether the corresponding patient had epididymal cystadenoma (EC) was reported. A c.180delG VHL mutation was found in a VHL patient without EC. This mutation was referred to in the paper as c.393delG due to a difference in transcript sequence.

    1. 179delG Fs Exon 1 60 CGG R Stop66

A study of 103 patients with VHL retinal manifestations and 108 patients without VHL retinal manifestations extracted from the French VHL database revealed that the number of hemangioblastomas appeared higher in patients who had a substitution when compared with patients with a truncated protein. Detected by PCR and SSCP, this mutation was found in a 1 patient without retinal hemangioblastomas, however other manifestations are not clearly stated. No family information or relation was provided. Recorded in the paper as c.179delG, this automaps to c.180delG (p.V62Cfs*5). This is possibly previously published in PMID: 15300849
