Why the great pond snail and freshwater mussels were studied in this reseach project: they are among the most common benthic species of invertebrates in water habitats of Eurasia. Why the plant species, Nuphar lutea (Yellow Water-lily) , was used in this research project: it is one of the most common aquatic plant species in the freshwater habitats of Eurasia.
