      The tille is somewhal misleading given lhat Astcll, a polit-ical conservative, never questioned patriarchal hierarchies, whether in the Church, lhe slate, or the family.

      Right...so maybe we should think of Astell not as the "first English feminist" but instead as a protofeminist?
