Based off the lecture it sounds like a lot of examples had been abandoned / decommissioned. Sounds like this was due to financial pressures. Is this a case of companies over exerting themselves or that their technologies were just not viable ?

I suppose this is tied to funding, like how it took some time for wind turbines to reach a technology convergence.

Sounds like the viability of these technologies is tied to research funding. Assume this is just to get the technology off the ground? I guess it's like a lot of other renewable energy types that struggle to compete with cheap natural gas
