    1. With growth in the use of communication technology in various aspects of social work practice, social workers need to be aware of the unique challenges that may arise in relation to the maintenance of confidentiality, informed consent, professional boundaries, professional competence, record keeping, and other ethical considerations. In general, all ethical standards in this Code of Ethics are applicable to interactions, relationships, or communications, whether they occur in person or with the use of technology. For the purposes of this Code, “technology-assisted social work services” include any social work services that involve the use of computers, mobile or landline telephones, tablets, video technology, or other electronic or digital technologies; this includes the use of various electronic or digital platforms, such as the Internet, online social media, chat rooms, text messaging, e-mail and emerging digital applications. Technology-assisted social work services encompass all aspects of social work practice, including psychotherapy; individual, family, or group counseling; community organization; administration; advocacy; mediation; education; supervision; research; evaluation; and other social work services. Social workers should keep apprised of emerging technological developments that may be used in social work practice and how various ethical standards apply to them.

Social workers often have to rely on paper and pen if technology does not work. luckily we had it as a backkup. As a Rutger’s student in the last few years canvas has crashed and AI has made it increasingly difficult to get accurate and relevant data. The technology that is meant to alleviate workload and stress from staff to better support clients, but can cause much more stress when it doesn't operate properly and skews collected data.

Social workers should take measures to care for themselves professionally and personally. Social workers act honestly and responsibly and promote ethical practices on the part of the organizations with which they are affiliated.

When talking about social workers, we have to be honest and responsible because we assume a natural power and it creates imbalance. When helping those who are underprivileged, it is critical social workers remain consistent to the mission and do not take shortcuts that can take advantage or undermine clientele.

    3. Social workers pursue social change, particularly with and on behalf of vulnerable and oppressed individuals and groups of people. Social workers’ social change efforts are focused primarily on issues of poverty, unemployment, discrimination, and other forms of social injustice. These activities seek to promote sensitivity to and knowledge about oppression and cultural and ethnic diversity. Social workers strive to ensure access to needed information, services, and resources; equality of opportunity; and meaningful participation in decision making for all people.

As a job coach at the Rutgers Center for Adult Autism Services I have taken the role of being a voice to those with ASD or IDDs. It is my job to explain things to them at a level they will understand in order for no one to take advantage of them. Everyone should have the right to make their own choices and have equal opportunity to resources and information no matter what their background is. It is my job to educate those in the community when they ask about my role and improve each day for the participant add to their quality of life.
