    1. But we're losing our grip on any sort of shared reality. Brill's company, NewsGuard, is attempting to put the brakes on. Its 40 or so staffers around the world identify and rate the credibility of online news and information sources. It's a finger in the dike, because there's no price to be paid. Almost 30 years ago, the federal government decided that internet platforms were like the phone company. You can't sue the phone company for what a caller might say in a phone conversation.

Agreed. I appreciate brave men and women, who are willing to go out of their way to help, and solve an issue of such value and importance.

More and more Americans are getting their information almost entirely from outlets that echo their own political point of view. And then, of course, there's social media, where there are few (if any) filters between users and a wide world of misinformation. For example: On July 13 a sniper came within inches of assassinating Donald Trump as he addressed an outdoor rally in Pennsylvania. Within minutes, social media was alive with uninformed speculation. One woman posted, "Who did it?  I bet you it was the government themselves. They're all on the same side."Koppel said, "We have no idea who she is, she has no particular credibility. Why should I even care that she is out there?" "Because she could potentially have an audience," said journalist and author Steven Brill. "If the algorithm gives it steam, that could be seen by millions of people."And then on X (formerly Twitter), this message: "You're telling me the Secret Service let a guy climb up on a roof with a rifle only 150 yards from Trump? Inside job." That message has seven million views and counting. 1/100:00CBS NEWS 5.10 v2 Skip Ad Continue watching10/16: CBS Mornings Plusafter the adVisit Advertiser websiteGO TO PAGE.cnx-non-linear-ad-container .cnx-ad-bid-slot{position:absolute;top:0;left:0;grid-area:adslot;opacity:0;background:none;width:100%;height:100%}.cnx-non-linear-ad-container .cnx-ad-bid-slot.cnx-ad-bid-slot-selected{opacity:1;z-index:10}.cnx-non-linear-ad-container .cnx-ad-slot{display:flex;position:absolute;top:0;left:0;justify-content:center;align-items:center;width:100%;height:100%;overflow:hidden}.cnx-non-linear-ad-container .cnx-ad-slot video,.cnx-non-linear-ad-container video.cnx-ad-slot{background-color:unset}.cnx-ad-container .cnx-ad-bid-slot{position:absolute;top:0;left:0;grid-area:adslot;opacity:0;background:#f4f4f4;width:100%;height:100%}.cnx-ad-container .cnx-ad-bid-slot.cnx-ad-bid-slot-selected{opacity:1;z-index:10}.cnx-ad-container .cnx-ad-slot{display:flex;position:absolute;top:0;left:0;justify-content:center;align-items:center;width:100%;height:100%;overflow:hidden}.cnx-ad-container .cnx-ad-slot div{background-color:transparent !important}.cnx-ad-container .cnx-ad-slot iframe{box-sizing:border-box;border:3px solid #ffffff !important;color-scheme:none}.cnx-ad-container .cnx-ad-slot iframe:not([id]){border:none !important}.cnx-ad-container .cnx-ad-slot-video-type iframe{border:none !important}.cnx-ad-container .cnx-ad-slot video,.cnx-ad-container video.cnx-ad-slot{background-color:#f4f4f4} Brill said, "We're at a point where nobody believes anything. Truth as a concept is really in trouble.  It's suspect."Misinformation and conspiracy theories swirl in wake of Trump assassination attemptThe cumulative impact of the lies and distortions just keeps growing, such that Brill titled his new book "The Death of Truth." "There are facts," he said, "and it used to be in this world that people could at least agree on the same set of facts and then they could debate what to do about those facts."

I think the "Death of Truth" starts with the communist-thinking maniacs being displayed all over national TV. Telling us what we need to believe, telling us how we need to make decisions. At the end of the day, I'm making my decisions based on what benefits me as an American citizen, not just settling for Bidenomics and bad economy, because I don't necessarily agree with EVERYTHING Donal Trump says or does.

Although the Secret Service did do a horrible job, I. understand what this portion is trying to say. And actually, I agree. I don't think saying things like this to create crazy theories are good for anybody. Same goes for the other side saying all their lies, for example, Trump is the next Hitler, and Trump had the worst economy. Both sides lie, and fall short of the truth. It's time to get a network (like Piers Morgan Uncensored) that focuses on important issues like these, and bring people facts, has a very central moderator who has been able to call out Trump, as well as Biden and Kamala Harris.

If we take the 2024 Presidential Election for example, let's say somebody is trying to see which candidate they should vote for, and they click on a post from Fox News, Fox would obviously be more republican leaning, which would influence that persons decision based on bias not facts.

Note: I'm not favoring any side. I'm just using this as an example. I would say the same thing about MSNBC and their butt-kissing towards Kamala and Joe Biden. I think both sides need to come to together for the benefit of the people for once. If we keep spreading false rhetoric about either candidates, people aren't gonna know the truth, eventually leading this beautiful country into the wrong hands one day.
