After coming to terms that the fact that she was out of love she starts increasingly talking back. As she gets older she realizes that her husband is sick and wants to leave.

We see Janie want to help the mule and when her husband buys it she has hope that her husband cares. But much like the mule Jody just feeds the mule and like Janie Jody just feeds her and dose not let her have an emotional connection or a life making her realize this marriage is not a good one.

Chapter 5 we see here Jody pushing her to the sidelines as he gets all the glory. Janie’s hopes crushed by a man who promised her everything as he claims she knows nothing.

Chapter 4 Jody woes Janie with his words of freedom and being treated better. We see here Jody making her question her marriage with Logan and her desire for freedom

Chapter 3 we see Janie’s mindset grow as she realizes that marriage and love are not the same we see her fantasies of a perfect marriage with love crumble as she cries here

Chapter 2 we see here the nanny and Janine argue we see the protectiveness of the nanny wanting to have her married to be safe but we also see Janie’s struggle for freedom and for love.
