I remember growing up doing research for school projects, and having teachers say that using wikipedia was not allowed. This was because anyone could put information on their and there was no way of validating the info. It's ironic that now it has come full circle and to allow open web to exist people are encouraged to publish information on wikipedia and use its information.

If generative AI is gathering its information from open web sources, yet not citing the resources thus leading to a tank in viewership of the original source this could pose a large issue. If these open web sources end up dying out then there is no source for AI to gather info from. I would imagine that AI would start filling in the gaps by itself leading to much larger inaccuracies in the information provided, and therefore a larger amount of misinformation being spread.

I find this an interesting thought because the whole idea of the open web is to allow anybody to publish information for others to see and contribute to. Creating rival GenAI to fight against "Big Tech" would just be feeding into the problem and destroying the open web further. I'm interested to know what strategies are available for open ecosystem players to use against big tech and GenAI.
