Now you may think that it is ignorant to speak broken English
It is NEVER "ignorant" to speak broken English. That's pretty ignorant for someone to say

"Plan on studying longer hours and spending more time reading books and researching term papers" (pg. 28). It's kind of sad to think of college that way because it sounds like it's impossible to have fun.
"Not everyone is a social butterfly. Instead of walking up to new classmates and introducing themselves, some students choose to retreat back to their room or go to the library alone" (pg. 28). It's more difficult now to even meet people and be friends with them due to COVID. If I were on campus, I would've stayed in my room too unless a friend asked me to go out.
"High school students spend so much time stressing over getting into college-studying countless hours for standardized tests, traveling to visit campuses, laboring over every words in their admission essay" (pg. 27). I remember how much I was stressing for those college applications and writing those personal statements.
"At age 18, I thought I had the world figured out; I thought I could ace my college classes like in high school" (pg. 27). I can relate because when I turned 18, things were just getting harder and we rarely have time to still try to have fun. People expect you to become a full-on adult just because we turned a legal age.
"While it's difficult to choose your life direction at age 17 or 18, some students feel pressure into picking a major when applying to college"(pg. 29). It's only the first semester but I'm already thinking so hard about what I'm going to major in because as of now, I'm undeclared.
"Studies show that if you're the first in your family to go to college, you're more at risk to drop out before the completion of your education" (pg. 30). I can already picture myself dropping out of college to be honest.
To engage your audience and use language to express your ideas, try to vary the manner in which you introduce textual evidence and the signal words, so they are expressive of what the author or character shares
This will help me make sure that my writing will not sound weird since I will not be repeating the same signal phrase
Express the author’s or character’s precise words in a sentence, because paraphrasing or summarizing would change the meaning
Using direct quotes will help me since I've always struggled and disliked paraphrasing.
So do not rush this process, and enjoy exploring and sharing your thoughts with your audience
I tend to rush things and I think that if I actually take my time, I'll be able to write more than I usually do
Is the idea in the topic sentence fully explained? Do you need another sentence or two to elaborate on why you have the opinion you state in the topic sentence?
When writing the analysis, this will help me make sure that the topic sentence is explained
pg 260 "I preferred reading in the total isolation of my own room." I can agree that being in your own little space is very relaxing and it helps you focus better which is why I always hated being in a classroom
pg 257 "I became increasingly frustrated at not being able to express what I wanted to convey in letters I wrote, especially those to Mr. Elijah Muhammad." I can relate to this because I always struggle with song writing.
I can relate but with poetry
This lowkey got annoying because I hate talking to people but I had no choice since I was the only one whose capable of speaking English fluently
I used to always be embarrassed whenever my mom tried to speak since her English wasn't that clear but growing up, I came to like it because we would laugh at what she said
Through lack of prac-tice and not having others who can speak it, I've lost most of the Pachuco tongue.
There were times when I almost forgot to how to speak Tagalog since I rarely had any Filipino friends, so for the entire day throughout school I was just speaking English
I may switch back and forth from English to Spanish in the same sentence or in the same word
Growing up, my parents taught me how to speak Tagalog since English is my first language. I often use English words in my sentences when speaking Tagalog
train it to be quiet, how do you bridle and saddle it? How do you make it lie down?
People use all kinds of ways to keep them from talking in any situation whether it's in English or their native language
we also realize that reading on screen is not natural or easy for everybody
It's true that there are some of us who are used to reading what's on paper. Personally, I find it more convenient to have any type of text on paper.
the ability to take ownership of one’s actions and understand the consequences of those actions for oneself and others
As we grow older, responsibility plays a huge role in our lives
Before reading the narratives above, why do you think individual experience is important? How can we start to connect experiences in academic settings?
I think individual experience is important because not everyone experiences the same things. You can start to connect experiences in academic settings if you find that someone is stuck on the same thing as you. In that case, both of you can help each other out.
What do you believe your learning style is? If you were to place yourself on the Zone of Appropriate Challenge and Growth, where has the majority of your education taken place as a learner?
My learning style is visually because in high school, I would try to picture in my head what notes I wrote. Also, when I would play songs on the piano in my school's little theater, I only watched tutorials with tabs on Youtube. If I were to place myself on the Zone of Appropriate Challenge and Growth, majority of my education took place equally in the "comfort zone" and "learning zone." That's mainly if I tried to pay attention in boring lectures.
why do you think your experience has been like that? What were pros and cons? What ideas from this chapter might have improved your experience?
The teaching styles of my former teachers were average because they didn't really make any of the assignments interesting. Everyday you just didn't have any motivation to sit in those classes because of how boring they were. The only thing I enjoyed in my 4 years of high school was the JROTC program because not only did I have a really cool instructor, I was part of a large community with students in the same program from other schools.
what makes learning engaging, fun, and ultimately the most rewarding for both you, the students, and us, the teachers.
As a student who doesn't really find "fun" in learning, I can see how active learning can be fun
Everybody has the capacity to learn
I agree that everybody has the capacity to learn. Just because you don't know how to do something, it doesn't mean you are not smart.
I wonder if it's that simple?
This is a question I ask myself a lot when I think about how artists can make writing lyrics easy/simple
You get to decide your own grade in the course
This shows how you want us to learn self discipline with our work and grade.
Regularly contributing your thoughts, experience, stories, and personal knowledge toclass discussion
This shows how you want your students to be inclusive in the class; you don't want anyone to feel like they can't contribute in class discussions.
Unlearning traditional rules of writing that constrain creativity
This shows how you want us to be able to explore our creativity side we might not be aware of.
