    1. Are they internal or external readers?

I was not very familiar with these terms so I looked them up. I believe internal readers are those who share values or common points of reference with the author, such as classmates. They also tend to share common vocabularies. External readers are those who do not have inside information or common background that the internal readers do. Local terms or acronyms may not be known to them. For example, some people call the cafeteria here, "The Fresh." People that do not eat there may not know what that means so you will have to use universal words and language.

    1. In more personal terms, the losses are measured in wasted time, work, money, and ultimately, professional recognition.

In regards to reviewing applications for a job, organization, or school, employers will not spend the time to decipher applications that are written poorly. Many of them will most likely throw it away immediately. So it very important to be clear and concise.

    2. confusing emails

I have had several professors in the past state that any emails that are not written clearly and concise will be deleted and not responded to.

    1. design process

These two processes are somewhat similar to the scientific method: observation, question, hypothesis, experiment, analysis, and conclusion. Obviously, there are different versions of the scientific method and other processes, but they all seem to have basic commonalities.

    1. No matter how brilliant or innovative an idea may be, if it is not communicated clearly and promoted effectively to the right audience, it will not become a reality.

If anyone has a difficult time relating to this, think of comedians. They use pauses and words to certain ways to make their audiences laugh. If a joke is told in the wrong way or without the right detail, it may go over the audience's head.

    2. communications skills are among the most sought-after competencies employers require of job candidates.

I have been to several career and interview seminars and have gotten advice from people in Human Resource departments of companies. This is one thing that they always say. Some skills can be taught but excellent communication skills are hard to develop. They would rather train someone that already has these good soft skills than to hire an already trained person that lacks them. One of the most important factors of the interview is how much they believe that your personality will be a fit for the company or job.
