    1. But the reason of my return was, that the Spirit appeared to me and said I had my wishes directed to the things of this world, and not to the kingdom of Heaven, and that I should return to the service of my earthly master—“

I really wish they would further question him to see who this "spirit" was that kept delivering these messages to him and kept pushing him on. Because it could have been an actual person or priest that was providing and filling his head with all this information. Or it could have been an actual voice that he states he would hear on occasion, further assuming that he was actively having hallucinations. If he was mentally ill, he deserved the right therapy and intervention that could have helped him out. However during this time, mental illness was pushed to the side and not fully acknowledged. Making it difficult to actually ask fro help and assistance.

    2. In August, 1831, Nat Turner led a group of enslaved and free Black men in a rebellion that killed over fifty white men, women, and children. Nat Turner understood his rebellion as an act of God.

This statement definitely stood out to me. I can briefly understand the reasoning as he was trying to deliver a "message" by incorporating and leading a group of "colored" men to act against. However, killing innocent men definitely crosses the line and is an act of hatred. Delivering a message could be completed in different manners that does not elude to harming another being just for the sole purpose. Especially Turner stating that his rebellion occurred as "an act of God", this definitely raises some eyebrows. He is inferring that a message was delivered to him and to act upon it, this could have been done by "hearing things", in other words he was was hallucinating.

    1. And now you have an extraordinary opportunity, a day wherein Christ has flung the door of mercy wide open, and stands in the door calling and crying with a loud voice to poor sinners; a day wherein many are flocking to him, and pressing into the kingdom of God; many are daily coming from the east, west, north and south; many that were very lately in the same miserable condition that you are in, are in now an happy state, with their hearts filled with love to him that has loved them and washed them from their sins in his own blood, and rejoicing in hope of the glory of God.

Now after terrifying the audience, a light at the end of the tunnel is attempted to be shown. This approach was very smart to do because it catches the attention of the audience, makes them realize the results of their actions and then demonstrates how a solution can come out of the situation by changing their views and any further actions to be taken from then on.

    2. The God that holds you over the pit of hell, much as one holds a spider, or some loathsome insect, over the fire, abhors you, and is dreadfully provoked; his wrath towards you burns like fire; he looks upon you as worthy of nothing else, but to be cast into the fire; he is of purer eyes than to bear to have you in his sight; you are ten thousand times so abominable in his eyes as the most hateful venomous serpent is in ours.

These words provides a different imagery and perspective of God that we are certainly not familiar with or even heard about. I am a catholic and growing up I would repeatedly hear the word Hell and how if a sin was committed the path to Hell was going to be followed in the after life. This of course did not mean that after one simple sin, one would go to Hell but it depended on how they lived their life and if they did any "good". No one really knows what happens once we pass away, there are many different understandings and view points that are believed in. Which is why this is intriguing because it provides small details in an area that no one truly knows.

    3. The descriptive choice of words that were used provides great detail and really emphasizes on the message that is trying to be portrayed. The choice of words is shocking but that is what catches the audience's attention from the very beginning. The detailed words will frighten them but they will remember the words that were said due to the impact that it had. Which is probably why the speech was so well known during the time due to its impact.
