    1. but those Bear-like Creatures, how terrible soever they appear’d to her sight, yet were they so far from exercising any cruelty upon her, that rather they shewed her all civility and kindness imaginable; for she being not able to go upon the Ice, by reason of its slipperiness, they took her up in their rough arms, and carried her into their City, where instead of Houses, they had Caves under ground

      someone said its like a Disney movie and yesss! They are carrying her off and being such good gentlemen trying to help her out, because she is obviously scared !

    2. they spake to each other in a language which the Lady did not understand; and having carried her out of the Boat, sunk it, together with the dead men.

      I'm glad they were able to save her, hopefully they are nice and don't harm her! She has been through enough!

    3. But to return to the wandering Boat, and the distresed Lady; she seeing all the Men dead, found small comfort in life; their Bodies which were preserved all that while from putrefaction and stench, by the extremity of cold, began now to thaw, and corrupt; whereupon she having not strength enough to fling them over-board, was forced to remove out of her small Cabine, upon the deck, to avoid the nauseous smell;

      That poor lady, She was kidnapped, and forced away from her home. Everyone on the boat she's on ends up dying because they froze to death. (By the way Karma sucks) She's not strong enough to throw them overboard so she has to sit there with their rotting bodies, and there's no one in sight to help her. She doesn't know how to sail, and she has to sit outside the cabine in the freezing cold because the rotting corpses stink. I feel like this lady just could not get a break.

    4. however his Love growing more and more vehement upon him, even to the slighting of all difficulties, he resolved at last to Steal her away;

      I just find find this crazy. You love someone so much, but think/ know you're not good enough for them. Instead of trying to move you come up with the idea of kidnapping. Like it's going to solve the problem of them never loving you back. I feel like only a psychopath would decide to kidnap someone they thought they fell in-love with.

    1. But surely Adam cannot be excus’d, Her fault, though great, yet he was most too blame; What Weaknesse offred Strength might haue refus’d, Being Lord of all the greater was his shame

      I really like this line, not only was Eve responsible for eating from the tree of knowledge, but so was Adam. It puts the blame on Adam as well, because no one forced anything upon him. He chose himself his actions and therefore is responsible for what he himself chooses to do.

    2. Most gratious Ladie, faire ELIZABETH , Whose Name and Virtues puts vs still in mind,

      Even to this day, people are still talking about Queen Elizabeth, and she even had multiple shows and movies about her.

    3. Why should not She now grace my barren Muse, And in a Woman all defects excuse.

      Is she saying that she cannot have kids? I read is as she did not grace her barren, which means that she cannot get pregnant. And in a woman all defects excuse. Saying that infertility is a defect or excuse that they cannot have kids.

    4. Not that I Learning to my selfe assume, Or that I would compare with any man: But as they are Scholers, and by Art do write, So Nature yeelds my Soule a sad delight.

      She's saying that she's learning herself, and that she can compare to men. Even though some of them are educated scholars, she's learning herself aw well.

    5. Where some of your faire Virtues will appeare; Though all it is impossible to find,

      She has some of the same qualities as the queen, but not nearly enough. She wants to be more like the queen, with a worthy mind and faire virtues.

    1. All hail, great master! grave sir, hail! I come To answer thy best pleasure; be’t to fly, To swim, to dive into the fire, to ride On the curl’d clouds, to thy strong bidding task Ariel and all his quality.

      So, Ariel has magic? Kinda of like a genie, she can grant wishes? Except for Prospero its more than 3. Whatever he wants, she can make it happen.

    2. Sir, are not you my father?

      I think this is said in a joking way. the father talks about himself in the third person saying, your father was the duke of Milan. and her reaction is like "I can't see you being the duke, are you not my father then?" while kind of laughing?

    3. Thou hadst, and more, Miranda. But how is it That this lives in thy mind? What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? If thou rememb’rest aught ere thou cam’st here, How thou cam’st here, thou mayst.

      He wants to know how she could remember something like this when it has been 12 years since they have been in Milan with those women tending to his daughter. She was only three at the time, a baby, so how is it that she can remember all of this.

    4. ’Tis far off, And rather like a dream than an assurance That my remembrance warrants. Had I not Four or five women once that tended me?

      Its a dream, that's how she can remember it. It feels like its all a dream, and in that dream she has four or five women tending to her needs.

    5. By what? By any other house, or person? Of anything the image, tell me, that Hath kept with thy remembrance.

      He is asking her what she remembers, does she remember a house, or a certain person? when she looks back what is the image that is painted in her head?

    6. Begun to tell me what I am, but stopp’d, And left me to a bootless inquisition,

      Prospero hasn't fully told her who she actually is and that he was the Duke. She has heard bits and pieces, but he never got to finish. Maybe, he thought she wasn't old enough to know what actually happened when they were banished. Maybe that's why he hasn't finished telling her who she is.

    7. The hour’s now come, The very minute bids thee ope thine ear; Obey, and be attentive. Canst thou remember A time before we came unto this cell? I do not think thou canst, for then thou wast not Out three years old

      He is finally able to tell miranda who she is, and where she is actually from. He is telling her to be attentive and to listen to him, because he is going to let her know. He doesn't think she can remember a time from before she was stuck on the ship because she was only 3 years old when they were banished to the sea.

    8. Had I been any god of power, I would Have sunk the sea within the earth, or ere It should the good ship so have swallow’d and The fraughting souls within her.

      She's saying that the sea has taken good ships, and good people. Therefore. if she had the power of god, she would get revenge on the sea and drain it until there was nothing left but earth.

    1. Come, I think hell’s a fable.

      Is this why he took the risk and sold his soul to the devil? Because he thought that hell was just a myth, and figured that he gets wealth and honor, and whatever he wants. They say that he'll be damned to hell, but hell isn't real to him so what is really gonna happen? it couldn't be that bad.

    2. GOOD ANGEL. Sweet Faustus, think of heaven and heavenly things. EVIL ANGEL. No, Faustus; think of honour and of[76] wealth.

      He's got a demon on one shoulder and an angel on the other trying to convince him to do opposite things. The angel is telling him that he needs to think of heaven, and how if he continues with the necromancy that he will not be able to enter heaven. The angel wants him too pray and repent his sins. But the demon is tempting him with wealth and honor now. Things that sound good in this lifetime instead of struggling.

    3. O, Faustus, leave these frivolous demands, Which strike a terror to my fainting soul!

      Mephist. has felt the joys of heaven, just enough to be shown what he is missing out on. He is tormented and banished to hell due to aspiring against god, and following lucifers footsteps. He is warning Faustus that he is going to be deprived of the joys of heaven as well if he keeps on his journey to black magic and necromancy. He will be stuck in hell with Lucifer and his soul be damned for eternity.

    4. For, when we hear one rack the name of God, Abjure the Scriptures and his Saviour Christ, We fly, in hope to get his glorious soul;

      Faustus was talking bad about god, so Mephistophilis went to try and capture his soul. That was the actual reason that the conjuring worked was to try and bring his should back to Lucifer whom he snuck away from to get to Faustus.

    5. I charge thee wait upon me whilst I live, To do whatever Faustus shall command, Be it to make the moon drop from her sphere, Or the ocean to overwhelm the world.

      Faustus wants Mephisrophilis to be his servant, and to do anything he needed him to do. But Mephistophilis already serves someone, which is the devil. He cannot go against Lucifer, and serve Faustus without lucifers permission. Faustus didn't know that Mephistophilis came on his own to talk to him, he thought Lucifer had sent him, but he is wrong.

    6. Sint mihi dei Acherontis propitii! Valeat numen triplex Jehovoe! Ignei, aerii, aquatani spiritus, salvete! Orientis princeps Belzebub, inferni ardentis monarcha, et Demogorgon, propitiamus vos, ut appareat et surgat Mephistophilis, quod tumeraris:[52] per Jehovam, Gehennam, et consecratam aquam quam nunc spargo, signumque crucis quod nunc facio, et per vota nostra, ipse nunc surgat nobis dicatus[53] Mephistophilis!

      I'm pretty sure that its latin, from what I've been taught growing up the "devil's language is latin" I'm not sure how accurate this translation Is, but this is what I got when I was trying to find what it meant. He is conjuring up Mephistophilis to help him with black magic and necromancy. What he is saying In latin is a conjuring spell he must have found.

    7. He surfeits upon cursed necromancy; Nothing so sweet as magic is to him,

      He wants to speak with the dead in order to use it to his advantage by being able to predict the future.

    1. Alas, I may well weep with sighs deep; Now have I no manner of company To help me in my journey, and me to keep;

      He doesn't have anyone left, others promised to be by his side. Yet, when they saw they were facing death they decided that they weren't going to help him. Just like in life. You can really only count on one or two people in your life. The others say they will be there for you, but when it comes down to it, only one or two will be left standing if you're lucky enough to have kept the right people around.

    2. They fear not my rightwiseness, the sharp rod; My law that I shewed, when I for them died, They forget clean, and shedding of my blood red; I hanged between two, it cannot be denied; To get them life I suffered to be dead; I healed their feet, with thorns hurt was my head:

      Jesus died on the cross for us. He went through so much pain and torture to free us from all sin, that way we could have a better life than he did. They nailed him to the cross that they made him carry himself. Pressed a thorn cross onto his head to the point of it making him bleed, and was whipped across the back multiple times bleeding to death.

    3. Drowned in sin, they know me not for their God; In worldly riches is all their mind,

      Everyman is covered with sin, and they aren't worried about God. They are more focused on the things that do not matter, like the worlds riches. Video games, money, the latest apple product. And some people will sin for those items. Whether it be stealing or lying about it.

    4. Ye think sin in the beginning full sweet, Which in the end causeth thy soul to weep,

      Sometimes sinning is fun, the feeling of doing something that you're not supposed to might give someone a little rush. Like driving on a motorcycle over 100 mph, to some its scary. To others they find it fun and exhilarating. But when that motorcycle crashes, you're going to regret it. Either you will be lucky and live, maybe with some broken bones or worse. Maybe you will end up in a coffin. Same with judgement day, you can sin all you want and it might be fun. Once it comes down to judgment day you will regret everything you did, because you won't be able to get into heaven.

    3. Whether it be a boy or girl his mother will have suffered much because of him, and for her sister’s sake you will pray her to cherish the babe.

      The mother will suffer because of the baby. Are they wanting the sister to take care of the baby? She is married to the lord of Northumberland and is rich, so maybe they think giving the baby to her will be good for both the sisters.

    1. sent by order of the King to inquire into the uprisings against the peace and to punish the guilty. Wherever he came he spared no one, but caused great slaughter. …

    2. When John de Walworth, a citizen of London, saw this, thinking that death threatened the King, he seized a sword and pierced Jack Straw in the neck. Seeing this, another soldier, by name Radulf Standyche, pierced his side with another sword.

      They wanted it to be equal for all to hunt and gather things they need to survive, but the King was hesitant. Maybe because that is how they can make extra money. Only letting a higher class hunt and gather things needed, then sell them to the poor? If he makes it a point to let all freely hunt, there Is no way for them to make money off of the hungry. I mean, why would someone pay for deer meat if they could go out and catch one themselves.

    4. The king would not bury himself in such a place as that, but, having taken some refreshments, set out again with his attendants about midnight, and rode on, under the direction of guides who were well acquainted with the country, until, about daybreak, he came to Amiens, where he halted.

He could not grow crops anymore for himself nor to sell. God said he is banned from the ground that opened its mouth to relieve your brothers blood from your hand.

    1. And sanctuaries are too widely violated, and God’s houses are entirely stripped of all dues and are stripped within of everything fitting. And widows are widely forced to marry in unjust ways and too many are impoverished and fully humiliated; and poor men are sorely betrayed and cruelly defrauded, and sold widely out of this land into the power of foreigners, though innocent; and infants are enslaved by means of cruel injustices, on account of petty theft everywhere in this nation.

      With everything that has happened in 2020, and even just in general these days I can see how some of these things relate. Due to the whole covid thing, people weren't allowed to attend church. Some people lost their jobs, and because of that they lost their houses or property to the government. The last part about infants enslaved child trafficking is a huge problem that needs to be dealt with. And petty theft, there were riots not even a month ago where some people would vandalize property and steal what they could.

    1. Most significantly was the invasion of Britain by Augustus Caesar.

      The maps really help, it shows you where they have been and who travels where. it's interesting to see where they have been and where they have fought.
