    1. I think the messages are not hidden but that people fear what they don’t understand. I don’t understand either, but I’m not afraid.

This shows a change in the character as she is now not the little child, but someone who is not afraid of whats to come.

    2. I lie on my back, hands laced behind my head and eyes closed because I know that’s exactly what he’s doing.

These lines show the connection between the sister and brother. Further in the stories it shows memories of how the two share about things they would not say out to others.

    3. I hop on the bricks and play with my dolls—stuffed unicorns and bears and rabbits, all with the same tea-stained mouths.

I think this part shows the innocence of the younger sister. After, the disappearance of her brother, we are reminded of the young age of the sister. Also, when I first read the line I thought tea-stained mouths was a reference to blood.

    4. I listen very hard and press my hand against the wall.

This sentence refers back to the beginning of the text where she could hear her brother's music through the wall. I shows how the music from her brother's room was bothersome and loud, however, at the end those are the sounds she wants to hear as she lays on her bed, but listens in vain as she knows her brother is gone.
