    1. “I appreciate your coming such a long way to see us,” he said, “but my brother recovered some time ago and has gone elsewhere to take up an official post.”

After our class discussion, considering everything we had talk about this line means much more then it did to me at first. The idea of everyone in the town being a "human flesh eater" and the concerned of being eaten ties into this sentence. He was very vocal about his opinion of "human flesh eaters" which was a concern of the older brother. The older brother tried to help him but unfortunately he didn't see this as help and begin to fear his own brother, leading to the "official post."I may be wrong but my interpretation of this sentence is that the government had taken him away because he disagree with "eating human flesh." The phrase "human flesh eater" was just a cover up for a much larger concern.

    2. I see that woman’s “bite several mouthfuls out of you,” the laughter of those green-faced, long-toothed people and the tenant’s story the other day are obviously secret signs. I realize all the poison in their speech, all the daggers in their laughter. Their teeth are white and glistening: they are all man-eaters.

After considering what we have discussed in class it makes me look at this story in a whole new way. The idea of "eating human flesh" is a strong topic throughout this writing but, what is the true meaning of this idea. Is it how it sounds, that they devour humans or is it a figure of speech used to show how severe something else is?

    1. If it falls on the outcropOf a stumbling tongue

"If it falls on the outcrop Of a stumbling tongue" To me this statement means that some words may be spoken without a thought, just stumbling off the tongue. These words can sometimes be the most hurtful.

    2. The Word, the WordIs an egg:

"The Word, the Word Is an egg:" This means to me that like an egg, once it's cracked you can't un-crack it, just like when you say something there's no taking it back.

    1. still there

The words "Still there" implies that the character wasn't expecting the dinosaur to still be there when he awoke. This raises many questions about the dinosaur and the character.
