    1. but we should gently point out to them that whilst they may have this fear of buttons, the fault actually lies with them and not with the buttons

This is a very good analogy and point to end on as if you have bias towards something its your own pre disposed brain that is to blame. it isn't in this case the buttons fault that they are buttons.

    2. Instead of blaming other people, actually just kind of reflect on our own behavior,

This is a very interesting point as it is very easy to point the finger at other people and not acknowledge our own poor behavior. Stepping forward and admitting when you are wrong can be a difficult thing do however it is the right thing to do.

    3. So there are three, kind of, areas of bias that operate in organizations.

    5. If a leader can actually talk about topics like bias, actually role model the behavior that they're expecting of other people, it has a huge impact on other people.

This is a very good point as role models have extra responsibility because there bias influences so many biases of other people so it is extra important the celebrities or role models of any sort are constantly working on diminishing their bias.

    6. When I'm doing these interviews, then I will do-- I will try my hardest to be as objective as possible. Or when I'm doing interviews, then I will not stereotype. Those when-then statements we found to be very powerful.

Another example of a great effort of focusing actively and attentively reducing biases it should be more advocated for people to consistently realize these bad habits they unconsciously have and attempt to break them.

    7. And the secondary, ridiculous as it may seem, is actually just to tell ourselves not to do it. Just tell ourselves to stop. I am not going to do it. It takes a conscious effort.

This is a very good point that it's almost like your brain can't be going through the motions and you must be focused in order to break bad habits of bias within your brain.

    8. My act was unconscious, but also it was not random. Unconscious, but not random.

Another example of acknowledging your own bias even though in the act you may not have noticed it is good to reflect and understand the issue. As the old saying goes, better late than never.

    9. Canada are told, it's disrespectful to shake somebody hard by the hand. So we're making these very quick, superficial judgments about people, which may not be accurate

Given my other annotation this makes me bias as I had no idea this was disrespectful in the First Nations Culture. It is important to constantly be a student of other cultures as it is how we grow as a society.

    10. All right? This never surprises anybody, but it really shocked me. So given my background education, experience, and training, I did exactly what you'd expect me to do in the circumstances. I went, OK, best of three.

Given this man's pedigree he'd be the last person one would think would show bias but it just goes to show that EVERYONE has bias even if they are not aware of it.

    11. And it may be that we value the contributions of some people more than others. We don't listen to people. We actually miss out on the talent that's available to us

I found this to be a really interesting point as it shows how bias makes us so limited and hurts us with not acknowledging peoples skills.

    12. It's not going to help this, but-- because it looks like it gets smaller as it goes down. But they are in fact the same size. They're the same size. The illusion works. And I know they're the same size because my assistant did it for me.

I thought this was a very good example to show what bias is that it's almost like an illusion you create in your head you think is real when that is not the case.

    13. introduce you to how the biases we're talking about apply in organizations, and some of the things that we can do, perhaps, to minimize the effects of some of the biases that we have.

    14. One of the ways that we can do-- one of the things we can do to increase our self-awareness is actually to do some tests of unconscious bias

I think doing this can be something very effective to ensure people are constantly being inclusive and not having any unconscious bias. However it is something that you would need to consistently do so your unconscious bias does not slip in the wrong direction.

    15. We like people who do give us a firm handshake and look you straight in the eye.

It is okay to acknowledge the differences of others as it brings together diversity and the learning of other cultures however it's the stereotypes that are dangerous for people to attribute to different groups.
