    1. Etch-a-Sketc

Etch-a-Sketch is an old toy often fashioned with a square box containing a smaller emptier square, and two knobs on each of the outer square. With the two knobs you would be able to compose a drawing of one’s choosing and the range of degree would depend on the user’s artistic capabilities. The Etch-a-Sketch is also fairly small and would be possible to carry along with you wherever. I personally had one on the go and they are fairly fun often.

    2. You’ll ask me about coconuts and volcanoes and surfing, and practice hula dancing

Coconuts, volcanoes, surfing, hula dancing all are associated with common perceptions of how Hawaii is to those who never been personally or seen ever. Often due by popular contextual facts of the State in various forms of entertainment.

    3. For the heptapods, writing and speech may play such different cultural orcognitive roles

Heptapods’ writing and speech do in fact play different roles. In that for writing as learned by Banks the hetapods’ produced graphic knew the context of various events at an instance. Be it the past, present, or future. This perplexing role leads later on with Banks questioning fated events and context of changing what is to be.

    4. What I’ll think is that you are clearly, maddeningly not me. It will remind me,again, that you won’t be a cloneof me; you can be wonderful, a daily delight, butyouwon’t be someone I could have created by myself.

This arrangement heavily implies that the daughter of Banks is not even existent yet. This is revealed later to be Banks capable of using the heptapod language to ponder into the future of her life and even those not born yet, her daughter to be.

    5. “they’re not kidding when they say that body weight makesa difference. I didn’t drink any more than the guys did, but I got so much drunker.”

Body weight, gender, and more factors play a part in alcohol diffusion in one’s body. A male who weighs more will take longer to get a “drunk” feeling than say a female in alcohol consumption.

    6. conglomeration.

Conglomeration is a fusion of various things in becoming of a much bigger end result. Like say smaller pieces of trash coming together to make a bigger merger.

    7. To be fair, the heptapods were completely cooperative. In the days that followed, they readily taught us their language without requiring us to teach them any moreEnglish. Colonel Weber and his cohorts pondered the implications of that,

Colonel Weber and his cohorts are confused by the context of the exchange of information, due to its one-sided nature. Back in the Age of Discovery there were many attempts to bond with newly found people of various societal groups. To bridge the gap exchanges of goods, information was made if seeking non-conflict talks. The heptapods are a particular case as they are the same of a new group, just new species from the stars, and not expressive in wanting anything in exchange is fairly puzzling to the Colonel.

    8. “Iwonderifit’saconsequenceoftheirbodies’radialsymmetry: theirbodies’radialsymmetry: theirbodieshaveno‘forward’direction,

Radial Symmetry is in the context of the body composition for the heptapod, when split into parts. When you cut a human down the middle, you get two even parts, a left and right half. Heptapods have a radial symmetry and not bi-symmetrical like humans. Radial symmetry creatures are much more otherworldly. Hard to divide the body up. This further the impression of heptapods’ strange appearance with the details prior. If they have no ‘forward’ direction like a human having no head per se looking onward, and are radial symmetry it would hard to decipher what body parts function for what, and with that the heptapods have a developed a much different form of understanding for their strange appearance.

    9. gelatinous ellipsoid

Gelatinous Ellipsoid is unknown to me as well, but I have the idea or notion of what the two words are and with that you can decipher the former. When you think of Gelatinous, what comes to mind? Jelly-like substance that is very sticky. And what is an ellipsoid? Well you may have heard it in geometry or some other place, in geometry it’s a shape or surface that is all composed of circles and or ellipses. So, put the two together and you get a shape that is all circles or ellipses that is a maybe has a jello composition and is also sticky to the touch, quite intriguing might I say!
