College is expensive and everyone knows that which is why there is a lot of financial aid and scholarship programs out there that student should apply for. With the vast amount of scholarships out there, I find it hard to search for the right scholarships and know which ones to trust with my information. However, school supported scholarships and financial aid are ones I can trust, and it's really helpful that they offer their own scholarships. Yes, college is expensive, but it doesn't have to be.

    1. Choosing a major can be challenging. Many new students begin college uncertain about their choice of major and benefit from the counseling services available at Georgia State. To help you in your selection, the staff of Georgia State’s University Advisement Center, University Career Services and Counseling Center are available year-round

While many student know what they want to major in when applying to colleges, there are many who don't know what they want to do. The great thing about Georgia State is that they don't lock you in whatever your first major was. If the field you applied for isn't exactly what you want to do, you can change it. Who knows, that alternate major may be just right for you. I want to major in engineering, and I have done some engineering work so I know that is exactly what I want to do.

    1. New Student Orientation is required for new freshman and strongly encouraged for new transfer students. Our programs are designed to introduce you to the unique world of Georgia State and prepare you to make the most of both your academic and co-curricular experiences.

Leaving high school and going to college is a huge leap in a students life as they are possibly moving out and living on their own for the first time. The fact that State has an event dedicated to helping student make the best of college and their new life is very thoughtful. This is important because it shows that there are definitely people at the school willing to help students adjust and not just leave them in a ocean of uncertainty.

    2. University Housing provides quality on-campus housing to enhance the personal growth and development of students. We accomplish this goal by offering modern, safe and secure facilities, opportunities for intellectual and social engagement, and purposeful interactions between residents and staff.

Housing for college is a big issue for most people, me included, as you never know how the prices are. Problems like, if you find a place farther from campus, how are you going to commute there in time, arise. Georgia State providing on-campus housing options are beneficial to many people as they can get to class on time and hopefully afford the rent. If not then Georgia State has ways to help with financial trouble by talking to counselors and working something out. So no matter what position a student is in, this shows that Georgia State is willing to help if asked.

    1. A student is only eligible to appeal their admission decision if they have an official denied status. Denied students may submit appeals as early as they wish, up to the July 1st final appeal deadline.

While not the position I'm in, many student have the potential to be successful, but school(testing, SAT, etc) is just was not their thing. This is one of the problems with many schools: they focus almost completely on academic and not on subject areas student are good at. For example, a student may have a passion for construction work, but because school focuses so much on academics, that passion is tossed to the side. Georgia state gives them an opportunity to try again but in a different position: by appealing to admissions.

    2. If English is not your first language and you do NOT meet the minimum Critical Reading on the SAT or the minimum English score on the ACT, you must submit official scores from a Georgia State-approved English proficiency test to be considered for admission.

I think it's very thoughtful that they considered foreigner that might be coming to their school. It's a good thing that people won't be discriminated against just because English isn't their first language, and I can actually relate to this as English wasn't my first language either. The only difference is, I've been in America for quite a while now and have learned the language. Not many people have the same luxuries as me and this shows that those coming from outside countries looking for greater opportunities can find them here.

    3. Georgia State calculates admissibility through consideration of two factors: a student’s grade point average (GPA) in the College Prep Curriculum high school courses and official SAT and/or ACT scores.

Nearly every college has these score requirements, making sure you meet the required GPA and have the right SAT score before even considering your acceptance. While I have the required GPA for admission, my SAT score is not looking too good. Now granted, I've only gotten to take the SAT once, and I feel like I've improved quite a lot since then. However, due to COVID, I was not able to get a second chance and I am now stuck with a bad SAT score. Even worse, some people haven't taken even one SAT, so they're in an even worse position than me. Thankfully, College Board is reopening SAT testing with safety measure in place for the purpose of helping students with no/low SAT scores. I believe I would be able to satisfy Georgia State's SAT requirement if I continue to practice and improve my SAT.

    4. For the purposes of admission, good disciplinary and academic standing means the applicant has no pending disciplinary charges, outstanding disciplinary sanctions or disciplinary or academic issues that would prevent the applicant from re-enrolling at a previously attended high school, college or university.

I do satisfy this requirement since I have no disciplinary charges and have maintain a good academic standing. I believe this is a very good requirement to keep their university safe from nondisciplinary students and helps maintain a safe learning environment. However, this requirement also comes with its downsides, because it prevents reformed student from entering because the disciplinary charges remain with them. This keeps them from getting ahead even if they have proved to be reformed.

    1. Engineering is an attractive career option for those who enjoy building or repairing items or designing new products, games or tools. Industry demand is high, with job prospects in branches of engineering continuing to grow.

This is significant because it's the career field that I want to go into and it's nice to know that Georgia state offers a lot of majors in this field. Specifically, I want to go into mechanical engineering as there is a lot of interest in that field for me. Also, I have done some engineering work before and I really enjoy it, which reinforces my choice. It is true that the engineering field will continue to grow in the years to come and that is another reason why I want to go into that field.

    1. Georgia State University’s Honors College offers high-achieving and highly motivated students the resources to excel academically and to prepare for successful professional careers.

Once I start applying for college, I'm going to apply for the honors program at Georgia State. It's a good way to separate the high achiever from those that do just enough to barely get by in college. Georgia state isn't exactly a very notable school, especially compared to those of Tech or Emory, but it's good to know that they have a program for academically successful students. This allows those students to aim higher than they would have if they applied regularly.

    1. GuardianCon’s ultimate goal is bringing together the gaming community for a greater cause – finding a cure for childhood cancer.

A lot of people view video games as harmful, to children, teenagers, and even adults who play them. This is something that shows those kinds of people that they are wrong and proves that gaming can do good.
