    1. So as you’re watching this election move forward, when you’re watching the votes get tallied up and pundits offer their political analysis, just remember: Thousands of young voters in Florida didn’t get a say in our own future.

If there were thousands in Florida alone there has to be thousands more all crossed the country that were unable to vote. I know covid kind of randomly popped up and we couldn't really prepare for things like this, but as a country Im sure we could find out a way to deal with this. Unfortunately I don't believe that's possible because of how divided we are as a nation currently.

    2. Florida governor Ron DeSantis could have delayed the primary or even made accommodations for the thousands of residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic to vote by mail, but he refused.

I can understand why he wouldn't want to mail in votes but knowing that he could have at least delayed the primary and didn't is a bit alarming. This almost shows that he doesn't care about that large group of peoples' voices that won't be heard unless he makes some accommodation.

    3. Upon realizing Tuesday that my vote would not be counted, I cried. Several times throughout the day, in fact.

This was just ridiculous to me. If you lay on your side in bed and cry all day because you weren't able to vote for something that could be selected prior to the votes anyway then you are worried about the wrong things. Get your work done for the day, go see something you haven't seen yet, go talk to people and socialize. This is a huge problem in our country right now. A large percentage of people are way to caught up in politics and spend too much time talking about stupid stuff that they have absolutely 0 control over.

    1. The last Sunday I spent with my father ended with a shoebox full of unfamiliarfaces--strangers and family I’d met once before but would likely never meet again. My fathershook his head and chuckled to himself as he pulled out a memory. He held it out to me. Ayellowed photo of my grandfather, standing next to a man I’d never seen before. “Do you knowwho this is?” asked my father.

This shows how during different stages of life you go through different stages of admiration, excitement, and care free living in the moment. Then later in life you face the reflection of all the things you use to do "back in the day". When looking back at these pictures you see that the dad chuckles. This is to show that he is reflecting on a good memory. Physical pictures are always a good thing to hold onto because they will always remind you of a certain time or place in your life that you might want to look back on later in your reflection stage in life.

    2. Although my father was eventually reinstated into the congregation, he stillflirted with his demons in secrecy.

By saying "demons" rather than blatantly what his addiction was, made this connection to a more broad audience. Everyone battles some sort of metaphorical demons but not everyone would be able to connect as strong if the writer would have said a specific addiction.

    1. The journey home initially began because of necessity. But, as with so many activities that come out of necessity,

Even though he had to take this route home and it was kind of routine at this point, walking can be a hobby or even considered to be therapeutic to some people. Taking this route at a young age could've formed this for Garnette.
