A concept of a "place myth" is an idea that is connected to a physical place such as Columbus. This notation came from the geographer Shields. He explained a "place myth" as "'stable sets of place images'". This fits Columbus perfectly because it was suppose to be a town that borders New Mexico and Chihuahua, Mexico but it didn't work as it planed.

Like this, when you see this your able to find evidence you can be able to back it up with historical evidence or your able to argue it with another source. With novels or pleasure reading you know its fictional and that some stuff never happened.

When reading, try to determine why the author has spent time writing each paragraph. What does it “do” for the author’s argument?
This an important tip because when you figure out the authors attentions you figure out everything.
