    1. One aspect of Internet research that cannot be emphasized enough is the abundance of online information that is incomplete, outdated, misleading, or downright false.

One important detail to always look for is the date the article or webpage was posted or last updated.

    2. Using it in your writing is fine, provided that you credit the source fully enough that your readers can find it on their own.

Having sources cited will also show your dedication to finding accurate information so your readers know that you're not spewing misleading information.

    3. Instead, consider your responsibility as a writer to present information you understand to be complete, honest, and ethical.

Be transparent and create a logical discourse explaining all possible points of view. Then your credibility as a writer will be established and your audience will be more likely to trust you.

    4. But in so doing, you are not presenting an accurate picture and may mislead your audience.

Don't be too scared to omit safety hazards. It's always better to have safety concerns in the ad description rather than not having them. Most customers interested in skydiving know that there is some risk so specifying that risk will protect the company and probably won't dismay a lot of customers anyways.

    5. Be a wise information consumer.

I like how to author put the word "consumer". Although we are not buying something with monetary value we are still spending time and mental efforts digesting information. We need to make wise decisions about where our time is spent and how.

    1. You need to list your education in reverse chronological order, with your most recent degree first.

In another class, I was told to put your highest education only. This could be because if I'm in college, it only makes sense that I graduated from highschool.

    2. Someone reading your résumé with errors will only wonder what kind of work you might produce that will poorly reflect on their company

The last thing you want is your resume working against you.

    3. This document represents you in your absence,

I love the first part of this sentence, "in your absence." You are not there to 'charm' the employer so your resume must speak for you.

    4. In many ways, your online profile is an online version of your résumé with connections and friends on public display.

A lot of companies check your online presence to make sure that you are responsible and don't post inappropriate pictures.

    5. To get you an interview

In my opinion, this is the most important. If your interactive and social skills are up to par this is what aids the most in achieving your job.

    1. There are only twenty-four hours in a day and we are increasingly asked to do more with less, with shorter deadlines almost guaranteed

I like to think of budgeting time as spending money. the more money you waste on fast food or expensive clothes the less you have for gas or deodorant. You could waste your time enjoying a new TV show or playing video games but then you'll find you missed 3 assignments.

    2. but you can predict why they would be drawn to the site and what they would expect to read there.

Making reasonable expectations about the intended audience is a big part of marketing. Good marketing has a lot of influence on the amount of sales a company may receive.

    3. If your document provides information to answer a question, solve a problem, or explain how to increase profits or cut costs, you may want to state this in the beginning.

Readers want to be informed about what they are getting themselves into. It doesn't hurt to tell them right off the bat.

    4. What is easy to read? For a young audience, you may need to use straightforward, simple terms, but to ignore their use of the language is to create an artificial and unnecessary barrier.

It's important to understand your audience.

    5. Similarly, writing that is easy to read is not the same as “dumbed down” or simplistic writing.

I think a lot of writers confuse this. Having something easy to read must have flow, word choice, and good sentence structure.

    6. Your reading audience should carry extra attention in everything you write because, without them, you won’t have many more writing assignments.

A lot of students just slap down what they think their teacher wants to hear so that they can get a good grade.

    7. The answer is “all of the above,” with a point of clarification

We all have different versions of the rules because we've been taught by different people and have a different perspective on what is "right".

    1. One way to do this is to begin your message by providing some information about your qualifications and background, your interest in the topic, or your reasons for communicating at this particular time.

If you're selling a product it would be a good idea to have a sponsor that is respected by the audience you are trying to sell to.

    2. You can hardly expect your audience to care about your message if you don’t show that you care about it yourself.

Listeners pick up on cues if you're just "going through the motions". Make it interesting.

    3. But it does mean that your hospital letter should be worded for all the hospital’s nurses—not just female nurses, not just nurses working directly with patients, not just nurses under age fifty-five.

I feel like this common human decency.

    4. Some cultures also have a less strict interpretation of time schedules and punctuality.

I wish the author would talk more about other cultures and their accepted principles with business communication.

    5. How many times have you listened to a speaker say “in conclusion” only to continue speaking for what seems like forever?

This is one of my biggest pet peeves with listening to people. It's also very draining when they drag on.

    6. show how much you know by incorporating additional information into your document or speech, but in so doing you run the risk of boring, confusing, or overloading your audience

It's not your job to prove how much you know about a subject. The goal is to say what you need to say as clearly as possible as quickly as possible.

    7. When it comes to oral communication, if you mumble your words, speak too quickly or use a monotonous tone of voice, or stumble over certain words or phrases, the clarity of your presentation will suffer.

This is where you need to focus on being confident. I like to think of talking to people that are strangers as talking to a good friend. This way they can understand how I am as a person.

    8. by selecting some information and “de-selecting,” or choosing to not include other points or ideas.

It's important to remember that people have a limited attention span. If you continue to speak the chances grow that you will lose someone in your train of thought.

    9. If your communication is oral, you have practiced several times before your actual performance.

A way to practice this out loud is to have a family member or friend listen and you points where you can improve.

    1. Your success in communicating is a skill that applies to almost every field of work, and it makes a difference in your relationships with others.

This is an essential point. The jobs that I've had were so enjoyable because I learned how to share the memories with my coworkers and joke with them.

    2. You learn to speak in public by first having conversations, then by answering questions and expressing your opinions in class,

A lot of having conversations comes from the way your parents interacted with others. I feel like some children's parents weren't very social and the children didn't learn communication as thoroughly as others.

    3. your communications skills help you to understand others—not just their words, but also their tone of voice, their nonverbal gestures,

You can tell a lot about a person by their posture and the way they carry themselves.

    4. What are the brands you are wearing

I actually wear a lot of plain clothing (black, grey, and white). I like to keep my outfits very simple. I think it shows people I don't care about external appearances.

    5. For some, it may be a positive challenge, while for others it may be discouraging

I think the challenge forces someone to grow. Obviously, we don't want to make others uncomfortable but I believe the more awkward situations we are in, the more comfortable we are being uncomfortable.

    6. more or less likely to want to communicate

Life is about growing and expanding. Sometimes you meet people that just don't function on the same wave length with you and that's okay. I've had to learn to except some people don't like me for who I am. It's not something we should resent about ourselves. Just understand it.

    7. What are some possible communication strategies?

I always try to think of the person as someone I already know and am confident around. This way strangers can see me as I actually am.

    8. Business communication can be thought of as a problem solving activity

I disagree. I think communication stems from attempting to understand others and their needs rather than seeing them as a problem to be solved.

    9. Communication is key to your success

I believe communication is very vital but sometimes it's not always the key. Other aspects like work ethic, visualization, strategy, and talent play an important part as well.
