Voting requires people to have ID and many people do not have ID for various reasons. It's important that voting stations exist where people without ID are able to vote as well to exercise their right.

Even when programs are free or have minimal expenses, if they are not located in places that are close to transit it makes it very difficult to many people to access the services

When transit is inaccessible and expensive, not only are people having to pay for childcare, but the costs of getting to and from the childcare location can make it practically impossible to afford. In some situations it would cost more money to use transportation to take a child to a childcare center, pay for the childcare, pick up the child and take the child home, than what some women make on their paycheck, making it more affordable to just stay home with the child. This then leads to potential isolation, lack of agency, and is also impossible for women who do not have a partner that is working and are the sole person responsible for paying rent and utility bills and buying food.

Moving into a shelter that is in an area dislocated from her community and support networks may cause a woman to remain in the shelter system for a lot longer than if she were closer to supports in the community. Shelters require those staying in them to check-in and many shelters require you to physically check-in every few hours. This makes it difficult to go out and access other services, especially if you have to spend a large chunk of time travelling there and back before having to get back to the shelter to check-in in order to keep your bed.

Women in abusive relationships may stay in those relationships for a lot longer than they would if there were housing options available for them to leave. When forced to choose between staying housed or becoming homeless, it makes it very difficult for women to leave abusive situations, especially if they also have children that would become homeless with them as well or would be left behind in an abusive environment.

Housing is one of the most basic things every person requires. It is hard to focus on other aspects of your life, whether it is employment or health, when you either don't have housing or it is in constant jeopardy. Housing insecurity and a lack of housing plays a huge roll on both physical and mental health

Transit and safety go together because when transit works around a 9-5 workday and doesn't prioritize early morning or late night trips, people are often left stranded and potentially alone. Transit and precarious work and poverty also play into each other because if people aren't able to get to work on time due to transit they could end up losing their job and then be pushed into poverty

Which women's voices were included? Which women were heard? Cis women? Trans women? Women of colour? Indigenous women? Homeless women? Sex workers? Women with disabilities?

When bus routes are created to focus on a typical 9-5 job with few to no stops on the way there or the way home, they do not work for people who also take care of children and are the main person in charge of taking care of the home. These services are utilized more by women, yet are often too expensive for these very same people who rely on them the most? The city is set up in a way to push women further into poverty

Where housing is placed, where transportation is placed and maintained, and where businesses and parks can be built all intersect and come together to influence the lives of people who rely on all of these services. If the people in charge of designing all of our services and amenities do not use such amenities, they will be designed poorly. For example, if men who drive cars and rely on their wives to take care of their children are deciding where transportation hubs will be placed in relation to the parks that women need to get to with their children using public transportation systems, it is unlikely that these amenities will be designed in a way that is suitable to those that rely on them.

How is this put out to the public? Lower income people who may not have the time due to working multiple jobs while potentially also caring for children, or do not have disposable income to be able to miss work to attend events, are left out of such opportunities. Likewise, if these events are only marketed online, then people who do not have computers or smart phones or regular access to the internet are left out as well, including a large percentage of homeless people. It is not enough to say members of the public have a chance to read through and make their voices heard if the system is set up in a way that only allows certain voices to be heard.

    14. More women use public transit.

When cities are designed and planned for white, cis, able-bodied men, those who do not fall into this category end up paying more money or spending more time to complete tasks

More than 50% of the Toronto population identify as women, so why do women make up such a small percentage of official leadership? Below it is mentioned that there are currently only 14 female councillors out of a total of 44, with only one being a racialized woman. The majority of the population is women but the decisions are primarily being made by people who do not share the experiences of women

We can't just have a one-size-fits-all model - going back to last week's discussions about a universal list of things for women - different communities may require different things

It's very important that white, cis, able-bodied women do not become the "baseline" and "standard" for planning when trying to incorporate "women's needs" just as white, cis, able-bodied men have been the baseline for city planning for people in general

It's also important to not lump all women together into one "woman" category - intersectionality plays a large role in varying needs for varying women

a common theme throughout cities - they are not designed or planned by or for women and therefore don't reflect women's needs. Need to incorporate an equity lens instead of equality
