    1. all dogs more than three months old to have a license that costs $50 a year; the cost is reduced to $10 a year if the animal is spayed or neutered.

This is funny that ost people with mixed breeds c hoose to pay more and not have their dogs finxed jsut to have a better guard dog. Owners should be interviewd foer all animal adoptions.

    2. 24-month period

It surprised me that it takes 2 years of multiple problems for them to relive the animals of their owners. At first i thought it was the same as child protective services; one call and yo were inspected. Now i know that its a much longer process.

    3. On Aug. 18, 2007: A Labrador mix attacked a 70-year-old man, sending him to the hospital in critical condition. Police officers arrived at the scene, and the dog was shot after charging the officers. This incident was reported in one article and only in the local paper On Aug. 19, 2007: A 16-month-old child received fatal head and neck injuries after being attacked by a mixed-breed dog. This attack was reported two times by the local paper. On Aug. 20, 2007: A 6-year-old boy was hospitalized after having his ear torn off and receiving severe bites to the head by a medium-sized mixed-breed dog. This attack was reported in one article and only in the local paper. On Aug. 21, 2007: A 59-year-old woman was attacked in her home while trying to break up a dog fight involving her neighbor’s Jack Russell terrier and two pit bull terriers. The pit bull terriers had broken off their chains and followed her neighbor’s Jack Russell terrier in through her dog door. She was hospitalized with severe injuries. Her dog was not injured. This attack was reported in more than 230 articles in national and international newspapers and on major television news networks, including CNN, MSNBC, and Fox.

Im noticing that they don't even say "pitbulls", but "mixed breed", this proves that they use pitbulls as a grouping term for dogs they think are dangerous when really they are just classifying dogs that people make out on purpose to be vicious guard dogs. and this statement is too brief to prove anything against " pitbulls".

    4. 97 percent of the owners did not neuter or spay their dogs. 84 percent of the attacks involved reckless owners — owners who abused or neglected their dogs, failed to contain their dogs or improperly chained their dogs. 78 percent of the owners did not maintain their dogs as pets (they were used as guard, breeding or yard dogs). In lieu of drafting costly breed discriminatory laws, public lawyers must decide if legislation targeting the aforementioned factors would be more effective.

This show that the problem is never the pet, it is the training and environment of the animal. How they are treated and taken care of. Studies show that not getting your dog neutered as a puppy could later on show signs of aggression. Also "pitbulls" which is just a grouping term for staffordshire terriers and other "aggressive bulky dog", the are known for being trained to be more guard dogs then the natural instinct they have to please, protect, and a positive approval most dogs need.

    5. 19

The author assumed we knew the dogs age to know that Labrador mixes or retrievers are normally gentle dogs and only become aggressive in the act of protecting an owner or in order to protect themselves. the only time a Labrador is normally aggressive is when they are puppies.

    6. Miami-Dade County impounds and kills around 800 pit bull terriers a year,

How long has this been happening? How has no serious attention has been brought to this situation? Ever h4ear of animal brutity?

    7. After such an ordinance is passed, authorities must then ferret out and kill any dog that slightly resembles a pit bull terrier.

This has surprised and hurt me. I did not know this was a law.

Something this serious really bugs my morality of innocent untill proven guilty

    2. were harassing a Native American man, Nathan Phillips

Reading the article on Thursday changed my view on Catholics and the Covington Catholic High School, and how their students were taught. But now after seeing the evidence and how Phillips reacted to the crowd of children may be swaying my second thought not back to the first but to a whole new view on the situation. this article ad video confirmed my doubts on the involvement and instigation of Mr. Phillips.

    3. And a freelance Vulture journalist wished death

To wish death on a group of high school students is into only something completely uncalled for but a waste of humanity, and disgrace to pacifist democrats. I believe that the crowd singled out the students wearing the MAGA hats in order to pledge to Maxine Waters their loyalty of uncalled for harassment.

    4. March for Life rally.

The March for life as in against abortion or against Trump? what confuses me in this situation is why it escalated so fast, creating more drama and chaos then needed to bring attention to the issues some people have brought to light.

    1. "military areas,"

the quotations around these 2 words confuse me a bit but if i were to take a guess why the words were quoted would be to hint to the reader that the military areas weren't as legit as they intended you to believe.

    2. African-Americans were refused home loans partly because of the government's support for a practice called redlining.

I didn't know what this word meant if i were to take a guess it was some sort of law against African Americans and after looking it up i know that it means they refuse to give loans to people who they think would put the company at a financial risk but back then it was just something that bank recipients would file when they didn't want to work with a person of color.

    3. U.S. HistoryBirth of the Civil Rights Movement, 1941-1954By National Park Service, adapted by Newsela staff05/07/2017Word Count 623 A photo of the Zoot Suit Riots on June 7, 1943, in Los Angeles, California. Thousands of policemen, soldiers, sailors and marines roamed the streets of L.A. They were looking for Mexican-American youths wearing zoot suits. They stopped this streetcar during their search. Crowds jammed downtown streets to watch the servicemen tear clothing off the zoot suiters they caught. The mob considered the zoot suiters to be "unpatriotic" and "hoodlums" during World War II.America changed tremendously during World War II, creating a driving force for civil rights that transformed American life. African-Americans migrated to the North, where they had the right to vote. New government policies laid the groundwork for the end of racial segregation. Civil rights became a national issue for the first time since the Reconstruction era, the period after the Civil War between North and South.Minorities, such as African-Americans, served in the military but fought in units that were segregated from white soldiers. However, the defense industry also created new jobs that eventually brought about social and legislative reform. Millions of married women and mothers worked outside the home for the first time, and some remained employed after the war was over.Approximately 65,000 Native Americans left their reservations to work in wartime industries and serve in the armed forces. African-Americans demanded their fair share of jobs and an end to segregation in government departments and the military. President Franklin D. Roosevelt responded by banning discrimination in defense industries. To assure that companies complied, he formed the Federal Employment Practices Committee (FEPC). This committee held hearings to expose racial discrimination and helped African-Americans in the North find work. The formation of the FEPC also led to the first civil rights case regarding equal employment for Latinos. Protests were held before the FEPC to expose the fact that Latinos were still denied jobs in many war industries. Despite their American citizenship, they were considered "aliens" by employers.African-Americans were denied mortgages and loansEven as people of color served in the military, those at home still faced racial discrimination from federal and local governments.

i was confused as to why they were treated so differently when they became apart of the military as opposed to paying taxes and living in silence.

    4. Despite their American citizenship, they were considered "aliens" by employers.

I was disappointed to learn that the term "aliens" went back so far an that people today still use it they have adjusted it to name immigrants, "illegal aliens"

    5. African-Americans migrated to the North, where they had the right to vote.

It surprised me that they had the right to vote int he north, i had known it was a better and more safe environment but it was shocking to know that they could vote.

    1. "We were quite surprised by this," Genov says. "It is not uncommon for dolphins to segregate into different parts of the sea, but to have certain times of the day in which they gather is unusual."

Quoted Words: I believe the author included this quote to either involve others in the article or to prove that the readers were not the only ones wondering why they eat separately.

    2. ScienceThese bottlenose dolphins are picky about their friendsBy Smithsonian.com, adapted by Newsela staff01/13/2019Word Count 556 A study of bottlenose dolphins in the northern Adriatic Sea has found that the animals not only form distinct friend groups but shun others of rival "cliques." Photo by: N. Nehring/Getty ImagesDolphins are highly social creatures. They are known for forming complex and long-lasting relationships with one another — and, sometimes, with other species. However, dolphins can be quite choosy when it comes to picking their buddies. A new study of bottlenose dolphins in the northern Adriatic Sea has found that the animals not only form distinct friend groups, but also shun members of rival "cliques."It is often said that dolphins have a malleable social structure in which population groups regularly merge and split apart. However, according to the authors of the new study, dolphin societies can vary greatly from population to population. Dolphins in Florida, for instance, seem to form separate groups based on sex and age. Among the dolphins of Doubtful Sound, New Zealand, strong bonds form between the sexes. Based on nine years of observations, the researchers behind the new study conclude that dolphins in the Gulf of Trieste have quite stable social structures. The Gulf of Trieste is a shallow bay of the Adriatic Sea, located near the coast of Slovenia. No New FriendsDolphins in this region have divided into two main groups. Each of the groups is comprised of both males and females that form long-lasting social bonds. The two main groups each have "core" members, with the other dolphins being divided into several social levels. There is also a third, smaller cluster of dolphins, which has "no particularly strong bonds with anyone," the study authors write. These lonely dolphins have some contact with both of the two main groups, and thus help prevent the groups from becoming completely isolated from one another. Nonetheless, the main groups seldom interact. Marine biologist Tilen Genov, who led the new study, said the two main dolphin groups have only been observed together four times over the past 16 years.A System For Sharing The SeaIn their efforts to avoid one another, the clusters seem to have come up with a system for sharing desirable parts of the sea. One group predominantly feeds in the morning hours, while the other appears in the evening.

I wonder if this was just a natural thought or if was discussed among the groups.

    3. One group predominantly feeds in the morning hours, while the other appears in the evening.

It shocked but also drew me in when i read that they eat in groups, like with company but also on a schedule like a lunch room.

    4. Marine biologist Tilen Genov, who led the new study, said the two main dolphin groups have only been observed together four times over the past 16 years.

I was disappointed to hear they observed them so little, over suck a large time span.

    5. A new study of bottlenose dolphins in the northern Adriatic Sea has found that the animals not only form distinct friend groups, but also shun members of rival "cliques."

i could not believe that there were Cliques even in the ocean, and i wonder how scientists figured that out.

    6. They are known for forming complex and long-lasting relationships with one another — and, sometimes, with other species.

It surprised me that dolphins not only communicate but create strong long lasting bonds with other species.
