    1. What would happen if the boys grew up with the same mindset as their fathers before them? I’ll tell you, not much will change.

She is changing the lives of a generation of people in her area. It is crazy because she doesn’t have all the money that comes from a big outreach program and she is still inspiring thousands of people and giving them a new life filled with many great opportunities. Now that she has expanded she is getting the help of organizations and hopefully more people see what she is doing and give her more support.

    2. This is Faith. Six months of schooling, now she’s a happy sixth grader who dreams of becoming a pilot someday, and her family now supports her, and best of all, her younger sisters will follow in her footsteps.

Faith was rescued and had her whole life saved. Now because of people who were inspired to help others Faith can now lead a good life. Faith was able to escape the grasp of the terrible system she was in.

    3. To empower girls, you need to educate them

This is definitely the best way to empower someone. Some programs miss this and people can get confused on what’s better, handouts or a skill that lasts forever like knowledge. Especially in a marginalized country giving a group of people education is almost the best thing you can do.

    1. For the sake of the planet we live on, for the sake of our children, for the sake of all the other organisms that share our planet with us, we are a terrestrial animal

Now I understand what he’s saying but in religions, most religions think we are a superior animal and we are here for a special reason. Personally I don’t think he should of ended it this way because I could see how people could get offended. Overall it was a great article that brought attention to the food waste crisis.

    2. But it gave me faith. It gave me faith that we, the people, do have the power to stop this tragic waste of resources if we regard it as socially unacceptable to waste food on a colossal scale, if we make noise about it, tell corporations about it, tell governments we want to see an end to food waste, we do have the power to bring about that change.

I am not familiar with any organizations like this but I know their are outreach programs of course. This outreach programs that run of donations are essential to these suffering places. Because where the author is talking about are mostly remote regions in a country were food deliveries don’t reach.

    3. But what we have to recognize now is that we are reaching the ecological limits that our planet can bear

This isn’t even a full sentence by the author but its his most important line. Statements like this always get people thinking of when humans may have to move off this planet because we have trashed it so bad.

    4. That’s based on diet intake surveys, it’s based on levels of obesity, it’s based on a range of factors that gives you an approximate guess as to how much food is actually going into people’s mouths.

This is his most important sentence so far. He shouldn’t judge the US grocery stores for having so much extra food because that’s just how there economy and markets work. But with obesity that is a huge problem in America and could be contributed to all the unhealthy food available. Now that I’m realizing what he’s talking about its kinda disgusting. With all our food options available people are choosing the wrong ones. He is right, America has an obesity problem.

    1. Well, to answer that question, we need to benchmark where the world is today against the Global Goals and figure out how far we have to travel.

I think this is very important. People shouldn’t be voting on politicians but instead new laws and benchmarks for our country and economy.

    2. So now the question is: if we get that much richer, how much social progress are we going to get?

I thin he should address the national debt of a lot of the worlds leading country’s. Especially with the United States, we have 21 trillion in debt and we cant just be printing money to raise incomes.

    3. What if every country in the world chose to be like Costa Rica in prioritizing human well-being, using its wealth for the well-being of its citizens? Well then, we get to nearly 73, very close to the Global Goals.

This steams from the capitalism vs socialism debate. Costa Rica has a mixed economy with a sting capitalist emphasis. I personally think capitalism is the way to go but the reason why this ties in so much is becuase a lot of people who want the same thing as the guy from the Ted Talk are pushing for socialism instead of capitalism. Politicians praised Venezuela on its socialist government and said how much it had helped the poor and marginalized. But that it crashed down and is in shambles today. Coast Rica has been coming out of a recession since the late 90’s. There are two different ways hat people want to improve the World by 2030 like in the video. Those are capitalism or socialism. One is the right choice and the other is disaster.

    4. Economic growth seems to have really helped in the fight against poverty, but it doesn’t seem to be having much impact on trying to get to the Global Goals

This is because there is no world fund or anything. Economic growth is for different country’s. When a country’s economy grows that doesn’t mean that there will be some magical left over money for a poor country.

    5. Watch the news every day and the world seems to be going backwards, not forwards.

This message is very powerful in the year 2020. All we see i negativity with both parties attacking each other. Riots are all over our streets and there’s a pandemic that nobody can ever agree upon. If we want to make the world better by 2030 like the video says, politicians need to stop blaming the people and start blaming themselves. The American people can’t vote on issues, use politicians that will hopefully address them.

    1. Be open-minded toward others’ ideas and understanding of their backgrounds

This is important because if you turn yourself off to an idea immediately because you have heard bad things about it or think its bad will make you miss key details you may not have known about it when its being discussed.

    2. This means we will work to think first of others, their benefit, their well-being, and their learning, knowing that others are compassionately working for our benefit.

I wish things would work like this bu it simply isn’t true in our world. I think you should work for yourself first than once you are stable you can give to others.

    3. Compassion impels us to work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of our fellow creatures, to dethrone ourselves from the center of our world and put another there, and to honor the inviolable sanctity of every single human being, treating everybody, without exception, with absolute justice, equity, and respect.

I don’t completely agree because I think that this makes it seem like we should go out of or way to search for people in need. I believe compassion is more when you come across someone in need.
