    1. “Here, deares’.” She groped around in a waste-basket she had with her on the bed and pulled out the string of pearls. “Take ’em down-stairs and give ’em back to whoever they belong to. Tell ’em all Daisy’s change’ her mine. Say: ‘Daisy’s change’ her mine!’.”

The problem with Daisy is that she is a gold digger. She is only after the money. It's unfortunately something most girls were after around that time. However this would only be the case when she would be sober; but on the flip side, when she is drunk, she wants to change her mind and marry the guy she actually loves, which causes her to give the expensive string of pearls back.

    1. “See!” he cried triumphantly. “It’s a bona-fide piece of printed matter. It fooled me. This fella’s a regular Belasco. It’s a triumph. What thoroughness! What realism! Knew when to stop, too — didn’t cut the pages. But what do you want? What do you expect?”

This quote shows the flaws in Gatsby that remain due to his past. The thing with Gatsby is that he has the wealth to buy all the nice and fancy things that other rich and wealth people can buy. However, one thing he cannot buy is the education and experienced that most other rich people do have.

    1. “I told that boy about the ice.” Myrtle raised her eyebrows in despair at the shiftlessness of the lower orders. “These people! You have to keep after them all the time.”She looked at me and laughed pointlessly.

This quote in a way shows the ignorance of Myrtle; of how she thinks that acting stuck up or like a snob will make her seem or sound fancy, but really it just shows even more of her true colors, of how much of a horrible person she is.

    1. Gatsby turned out all right at the end; it is what preyed on Gatsby, what foul dust floated in the wake of his dreams that temporarily closed out my interest in the abortive sorrows and short-winded elations of men.

Gatsby somewhat has something that haunts him, something that preys on him. This feeling of sorrow and sadness that conflicts him is one that is within himself that he only can fight. Gatsby seems like a somewhat reserved person so it makes you wonder what else goes on in his head.
