I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. I hate when professors or teachers just assume we know things or remember things. I'm not asking you FOR the answer, I just want to know what I need to do or find or reference in order for ME to get the answer on my own. I need practice doing research and guidance on how to do it- I don't want to take the easy way out, but come on!

Again, is this a nature vs nurture situation? How has that child had learning presented to them? Is it presented as an unwanted chore or as an exciting challenge? How much of that perception is based on the parents own educational experiences?

This has to be nurtured by a parent or adult figure in their life. It sounds like they are afraid of the repercussions of failure and that's why they try to hide it. Someone is making them feel less and perpetuating that feeling.
