The feeling that this quote gives me is that, it might seem that everyone is out to get him because they want to consume his body. Here it is demonstrated that he is well aware of the situation since they did the same thing to a "bad" man. Since he's cured of his paranoia perhaps that is the reason why they want to eat him. He has no doubts they will try to kill him just to consume him since he clearly states "If they are capable of eating people, the who's to say they won't eat me?" Which is an understandable idea to assume in his case.
