That's why it's vital that I make the most of my influence now. By the time they are 11, the message will have been well and truly drummed into them: Clever, ambitious children make the very best of friends.
the best friends are not just good at studying. furthermore, it is bad to "drum" soething into your children, if it clearly has no obvious impact on their childhood, or maybe even negative impacts

there are many successful individuals who may have underperformed at middle school. the experience from school which they should gain is far less related to education and is not as important as friendships
Academic success is infectious. Pupils 'catch' cleverness from their friends.
Despite the fact that this phenomenon exists, it should not stop you from preventing friendships which could be made. However, there are external sources of motivation which could inspire the children to work hard ot ever harder too
