    1. Consequently Cronus time and again did away with the children whom he begot

Diodorus' writing seems to be a little less graphic then other poets' writings.

    2. he rules over mortals and immortals.

I think it's interesting that in this rendition Zeus became king by getting the trust of other immortal beings instead of just being "the strongest." I think you could draw parallels between Zeus' rise to to power with that of different heroes through-out Greek mythology (Odysseus comes to mind).

    3.      First it was Chaos, and next broad-bosomed Earth, ever secure seat of all the immortals,

I think it's interesting to note that "mother earth" is the progenitor to everything that exists beyond chaos, I wonder that, because that from her she bore the water which many believed to be the beginning of all life?

    4. and loud-resounding Poseidon,

Poseidon's always-forgotten power, earthquakes, but is this power based on his personality of being loud and boisterous?

    5. wealth that incites men to crime. And now harmful iron appeared, and gold more harmful than iron.

Just like in present day society, greed still incites violence in all, it is a shame that we still haven't learned from stories told for thousands of years...

    6. So the earth, that had been, a moment ago, uncarved and imageless, changed and assumed the unknown shapes of human beings.

I love Ovid's writing, and this description about how humans were formed in the image of the gods is beautiful and speaks to the fact that all humans are nearly as beautiful as the gods, and that humans are the cause that from shaping the humans, Prometheus created valleys and caused lakes and had the earth become more then what it was.

    7. hen they had heard his speech: and their spirit was eager for battle still more than before, and they stirred up unhappy strife all of them, female as well as male,

Since ancient Greece was incredibly sexist (being a patriarchal society) it is interesting to note that the women were also involved in the battle, not something you would hear about often in Grecco-Roman mythology.

    8. and lover of smiles,

I think it's interesting that the Goddess of love and pleasure started off by loving the smiles from the creature around her.

    9. took the huge sickle, long and jagged-toothed, and hastily 180 mowed off the genitals of his father,

If only someone thought to do this to Zeus, so many problems would have been solved...

    10. and Eros [Love], who is most beautiful among immortal gods

In other sources, Eros/Cupid is the son of Aphrodite/Venus (such as in Ovid's Metamorphoses)
