    1. Society is, in fact, “habit.”

This is very true. Most things we do in society are habitual. It is really interesting to think about. I've never really heard it said like that.

I cannot imagine coming from somewhere that does not have the same social norms. People are just expected to know how to act in different environments. For me, it's easy to know what to do, how to act, and what is polite. For someone else it could be really confusing at first.

    4. Music allows people to make connections, where language might be a more difficult barricade. As Fritz and his team found, music and the emotions it conveys are cultural universals.

This is really interesting to me because I know some people can learn languages faster by listening to music in that language. It is really cool that music is universal and can connect people all over the world in many different ways.

    5. Material and nonmaterial aspects of culture are linked, and physical objects often symbolize cultural ideas.

It is really cool that while nonmaterial and material aspects of culture are obviously two different things, they can also go hand in hand.

    6. This is called the Hawthorne effect—which occurs when people change their behavior because they know they are being watched as part of a study.

It's really interesting that they tell people they're being observed as part of the study. It seems like people will always change they way they're acting subconsciously, just because they know they're being watched.

    8. sources. Every research method comes with plusses and minuses, and the topic of study strongly influences which method or methods are put to use.

I really like that there are different ways to research things. None of them are better or worse than another, there are just different ways to find out different things.

    9. Soon, as patterns emerge, questions will become more specific, observations will lead to hypotheses, and hypotheses will guide the researcher in analyzing data and generating results.

I think it's really interesting that a person goes with a question in mind, seeking more questions.

    10. sociologists have discovered social patterns in the workplace that have transformed industries, in families that have enlightened family members, and in education that have aided structural changes in classrooms.

This goes to show how important sociology is to every society. The more we know about the social patterns in societies can show us ways to improve every aspect of our lives.

I think Herbert Spencer's view is really cool. That the state of society impacted an individual and an individual impacted the state of society.

    13. Increasingly, single people and cohabitating couples are choosing to raise children outside of marriage through surrogates or adoption.

I think it is super cool that while there are certain things in our society that are taught as the "correct way", we still see drastic changes in social norms that change our opinions.
