Oftentimes, informative scientific media that actively involves academia, from press conferences to opinion pieces, doesn't consider different audiences beyond "not academia." Even within the categories of general public you still need to tailor your writing to convey its point and persuade the audience by meeting them where they are in their understanding, and not just scientifically, but also politically or morally. I understand why it isn't done often, it's hard. However, it is still important for getting the truth out there. I just feel like this is a point that isn't often addressed when talking about science writing.
