    1. Maria, remembering how confused the gentleman with the greyish moustache had made her, coloured with shame and vexation and disappointment.

When everyone was teasing Maria, she said "Don't ring or man", but it has "disappointment and shame." Is she really bearish? As life goes on, maybe her connection to emotions can only be more needs and desires. Maria’s affection for the gentleman on the train is also the emotion hidden in her heart. She still longs for love.

    2. She felt a soft wet substance with her fingers and was surprised that nobody spoke or took off her bandage.

Although the article did not clearly indicate what she touched, it is obviously muddy in combination with the topic. The soil here should be a metaphor. She has a dream, longing for love, but she has to bow to fate and obey the world.

    3. Whit-Monday

Whit Monday or Pentecost Monday (also known as Monday of the Holy Spirit) is the holiday celebrated the day after Pentecost, a moveable feast in the Christian calendar. It is moveable because it is determined by the date of Easter. In the Catholic Church, it is the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church.

    4. As she mused the pitiful vision of her mother’s life laid its spell on the very quick of her being—that life of commonplace sacrifices closing in final craziness.

She wanted to escape from the lifestyle of her monther, she felt hopeless, but is it a right choose escaping from her family with a strange man?

    5. . She set her white face to him, passive, like a helpless animal. Her eyes gave him no sign of love or farewell or recognition.

The first time I read this sentence, I felt the hopeless of the girl and her desire of freedom. But now when I read this again, I feel that she knows that the truth is just to escape from a cage to another cage. She does not love him very much. What she loves more is the yearning for a new life.

    6. What innumerable follies laid waste my waking and sleeping thoughts after that evening!

The narrator falls in love, he loves the girl, so that he can make him full of his mission with a single sentence.

    1. A face, little and pale, lifted to his, and a voice breathed, “Good-bye, my treasure.”

It seems to be from the lowness of the darkness. The life of the old gentleman is an ideal family for outsiders, but in fact it is nothing but a lonely person.

    2. Mr. Neave

The protagonist of this novel changed from a girl to an old man, a bit magical. Katherine Mansfield is very good at portraying characters through details. She is very good at describing the woman's heart. I don't know what will happen to her depicting the old man this time?

    1. But deep inside her a little girl threw her pinafore over her head and sobbed.

She was hurt in the depths of her heart from the fat man, but she also pretended to be strong, this may be a growth.

    2. You see, I’ve been doing this kind of thing for the last thirty years.”

This man has a lot of dancing experience, but he is very old, this is a strange combination!

    3. You see, I’ve lived in the country all my life up till now...

What a frank little girl! She is not ashamed to tell this to him that she is dancing for the first time.

    4. Would she go with them, or stay here and write to William. Which, which should it be?

Isabel must make a choice between the marriage shackles and her own life. I believe she still love her husband deep in the heart.

    5. All the same, as he bought the melon William had a horrible vision of one of Isabel’s young poets lapping up a slice, for some reason, behind the nursery door.

He was not with his wife for a long time, and he was imaginative because he was unclear about the life of his wife. He was very afraid of going to his wife, he was afraid that his wife would no longer love him. He lacks security.

    6. “I suppose you prefer it to London. It’s more—more—”

The narrator was also nervous and panic while the girl was sitting in front of him.Very interesting scene. The shyness and slightness of the two people are well reflected.

    7. “I like it. I love waiting! Really—really I do! I’m always waiting—in all kinds of places... “

Similar to the previous novels, the last ending is to leave the sentence without ending.that contains the shame and growth of a little girl.

    8. What did it mean? What was it she was always wanting?

The little girl had been living under the protection of her father. Now that her father had died, she was uneasy and confused about the future. What was it she was always wanting?

    9. Cyril says his father is still very fond of meringues

The little boy wants to show others that he knows the late father by emphasizing that he knows his father's preferences, so he is not an incompetent son.

    10. She heard him absolutely roaring.

Presumably, the little girl’s father was very tempered and violent during his lifetime. It can also be seen that the father is the pillar of this family.

    11. “Buried. You two girls had me buried!” She heard his stick thumping.

The little girls look very scared of their father. After all, they are children, they are full of fear of death.

    12. “But, mother,” Laura began again. She couldn’t look at herself; she turned aside.

How naive and kind this little girl is! She is compassionate, but she can't understand the isolation of class.

    13. we should still be having our party, shouldn’t we?”

If I am the child, I don't know how to choose. The rich cannot understand the lives of the poor, and the poor cannot understand the lives of the rich.

    14. They were like trees you imagined growing on a desert island, proud, solitary, lifting their leaves and fruits to the sun in a kind of silent splendour. Must they be hidden by a marquee?

The author is good at rendering emotions by describing the things around the scene. This is really different from the moonstone.

    1. The fact to which I allude is–the marriage of Miss Rachel and Mr. Franklin Blake.

I am very happy to see that two people can finally get married happily. Because of the moonstone, the two men have experienced many bumps and setbacks along the way. But it is these hardships that make the two people's love for each other more and more determined. This is also the best ending for both.

    2. gleamed the yellow Diamond

the moonstone finally returned to the original owner. This story originated in India and finally returned to India. I have to say that the experience of the moonstone is very rough. In the eyes of the British, it may be just a precious gem, but here in the Indians, it is the carrier of faith, the symbol of the moon god, full of cultural weight. Returning to India is also its best destination.

    3. “What have you done! YOU ask that question of ME?”

They both love each other deeply. But misunderstandings have not been clarified.I hope they can get together, but I also know it's impossible.

    4. I had discovered Myself as the Thief.

The story is getting more and more interesting here.Mr.Franklin found himself exactly the thief who stole the moonstone. It must be a fraud!Maybe someone pretended to be Franklin and made this crime.

    5. “Insult!” reiterated Mr. Ablewhite.

Although this is due to his love for his son, Mr. Ablewhite is still a little out of control. I have to say that his son is much more sensible than him. It can also be seen that Miss Rachel is a bit ruthless, although the marriage should be considered for herself. A series of events made Miss Rachel more and more calm and mature

    6. Are you speaking of the Moonstone, Godfrey—-”

I am a bit skeptical about the purity of Godfrey's love for Miss Rachel. Maybe Godfrey is close to Miss Rachel who is jealous of her property. On the surface Mr. Godfrey is a philanthropist, but he may have been unable to make ends meet. Of course, maybe Godfrey really fell in love. But I think Rachel doesn't love him. This may be a tragedy.

    7. . I have done much to make my mother pity me–nothing to make my mother blush for me.’ Those are my daughter’s own words.

The lady loved her daughter and she believed her daughter's words deeply. But in my opinion, maybe her daughter lied to her. There must be a big secret.

    8. “Now I saw, though too late, the Folly of beginning a Work before we count the Cost, and before we judge rightly of our own Strength to go through with it.”

Through a sentence in Robinson Crusoe at the beginning of this wonderful story, I start to associate. The two stories must have something in common!

    9. Aurungzebe, Emperor of the Moguls

Aurungzebe, an accomplished military leader, was a notable expansionist. During his reign, the Moguls Empire reached its greatest extent, ruling over nearly all of the Indian subcontinent. But he abandoned his predecessors' legacy of pluralism and religious tolerance. He was controversial and criticized.
