    1. School is just a start.

This is true and very important. The transformation of a community can really come from what is being taught in school and the education being provided. But also this statement is true because school is only a start- there is so much more to be done after schooling in order to create meaningful changes.

    2. Helping the communities see that each daughter is a treasure, every sister is full of potential, and helping every single girl see that value in herself. There is no limit to what that future will cost.

This is a really beautiful sentiment- that these girls have worth and value and are so special and deserve to be treated as such. Not only that, but these girls deserve to see that in themselves. A future where these girls are treated with love and respect and don't have to undergo this suffering is invaluable.

    3. What would happen if the boys grew up with the same mindset as their fathers before them? I’ll tell you, not much will change.

This is so important and so true. A lot of stopping cycles is stopping it at the root, which would be teaching younger people that these things are not okay or normal. It is so important to teach about gender equity, health, and human rights to EVERYONE not just those who are directly suffering from it

    1. The one on the right I treated like cut flowers. It’s a living organism, cut the slice off, stuck it in a vase of water, it was all right for another two weeks after this.

I like this because a big part of food waste i'm sure is just not knowing how to store the food properly so that it can last longer and not go to waste.

    2. it symbolizes their taboo against food waste.

It is very interesting to see the cultural differences surrounding food and food waste. Here in America, wasting food is basically seen as a normal part of life, practically inevitable. While in other countries, food waste is "taboo" and something to be frowned upon / something people actively try to avoid

    3. The first biscuit we’re going to lose before we even leave the farm. That’s a problem primarily associated with developing work agriculture, whether it’s a lack of infrastructure, refrigeration, pasteurization, grain stores, even basic fruit crates, which means that food goes to waste before it even leaves the fields.

This part is very interesting because when I think of food waste, I never really think of the food that goes to waste before it even makes it into the store or someone's home. I usually think of food going to waste in someone's fridge etc. or not being bought at the store. It is important that this factor is looked at as well because in reality it is quite a chunk of food waste

    1. Our world today is scoring a C-

This is interesting because honestly, I was expecting the score to be lower. Although, I think this came to mind because I was thinking in terms of 2020 and not what things were like in 2015. It's interesting that the world is kind of right smack in the middle.

    2. And we need to hold them to that promise by holding them accountable, tracking their progress all the way through the next 15 years.

I think this is a really great point! It can;'t just be about expecting the change to happen because the leaders said so, but holding them accountable and making it known that we expect these changes to happen! If these changes aren't happening we should speak up and make sure that the appropriate changes are made, and that we are making appropriate adjustments in our own lives as well

    3. Let’s not dismiss the goals or slide into pessimism; let’s hold them to that promise.

It is so important if we want to reach these goals, or any goals in general, that we maintain an optimistic attitude! Assuming the worst or just accepting that things can never change means things WILL never change because we won't put the effort in! To make substantial progress, we should believe that it is possible and pay attention to how we can make a difference.

    1. try not to be defensive

This can be a really tricky one, especially when someone doesn't respond how you thought they would about something that means a lot to you! However, it is important to hear what they say, and take time to formulate a respectful response. The issue may have even just been a misunderstanding. It is important to try not to get defensive and aggressive and instead maybe try to open up a conversation.

    2. knowing that others are compassionately working for our benefit

I really like this view. It can be really easy to fall into thinking that it's "everyone for themselves" when actually we are here to help and care for each other! Not everyone is out to get you, and showing people compassion can make them more comfortable to show compassion to you and others.

    3. pledge to do all that we can, knowing we’ll fail on occasion, to restore compassion to the center of our lives

I think acknowledging that we may fail sometimes to be compassionate is super important! It takes the pressure off of having to be perfect, and allows you to instead focus on how you can improve and be more compassionate to yourself and those around you.
