Here the virus isn't being taken seriously. He is "hoping" for this all to just go away yet it wont unless everyone collectively started following the suggestions more seriously. this includes wearing a mask, social distancing no more than 6 feet apart, no large groups, etc.

This is another example of how mask aren't being taken seriously. If Trump had said this then worn a mask it would have shown he reconsidered but without being obligated to people won't use them even if it does put their lives in danger because they refuse to see the severity of the pandemic and the benefits of the mask.

If Trump doesn't want to enforce wearing a mask people that support him would also think they aren't required to wear one causing the public to be at a much higher risk of testing positive with corona. if Trump did "set an example" by wearing a mask chances are that his supporters would then take the time to reconsider and wear one. This would help with the publics safety.

Because so many Americans have refused to wear masks in public, many people have been spreading covid 19. Without masks being enforced it will continue to spread rapidly. If masks were mandatory then the risks of covid would be reduced.
