    1. The controversies-over matters like school funding, vouchers, bilingual education, high-stakes testing, desegrega-tion, and creationism-seem, at first glance, to be separate problems. In im-portant ways, however, they all reflect contention over the goals of the American dream.

I actually did not think of this before. I would have seen it all as a separate issues, without the author pointing. it out like that. I think it's interesting that this all goes back to the goal of the American dream. It's all comes down to whats best for the individual and the whole. It makes sense to me without a lot of explanation just because all the things listed are about what gonna be best for the people in a way and another part is money. The part of this that is more about the people flows into he concept of success and the American dream.

    2. T HE AMERICAN DREAM IS A POWERFUL CONCEPT.

This passage following the "the American Dream Is A Powerful concept." made me really account the power of this mentality and how this concept has installed so much ambition and determination in so many generations. I like that this passage highlights how each person is held responsible for their own success.

    3. Public schools are where it is all supposed to start-they are the central institutions for bringing both parts of the dream into practice.

I feel this is a very true statement. The idea behind public school is to give everyone equal education a start at success in the future. It provides basic education and tools to become a productive member of society. Public school can give a good influence and outlook on being an educated citizens in the world.

    4. There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured by what is right with America.

I really liked this quote in the very beginning of the text. I find it to be a very optimistic and inspiring way to think of how things can change regardless of how it things are currently. I think that adding this is a powerful way to introduce the American Dream and the idea that you can be successful in America with hard work and determination. I also wanted to add that I like how this gives the people/public a chance to take initiative and act in a way that will create a more "cured" America
