    1. a long time after her death, her eccentricity prevented her from being taken seriously by literary historians

It seems to be a common trend with many of the famous women we have been learning about to only become popular and renowned many of years later, long after their deaths, due to the standing that women now possess in society

    2. e, she explains away her collection by claiming, because she was in exile, she had nothing better to do

She explains away her writing as though it were nothing more than a way for her to pass the time; the fact that she is a woman writing incredible pieces during this time is not unique, but for any female writer to gain this much traction and audience is almost unheard of

    3. In spite of the age difference, she records in her autobiography that he was the only man she was ever in love with

It is interesting to read about the love story that these two people shared, as their way of meeting was definitely very unique; two aristocrats who happened to be exiled, meet each other and fall madly in love. In a time when arranged marriages between aristocrats were extremely common, what these two had seems almost like somethin\g out of a romance novel

    1. it was deliuered vnto me in sleepe many yeares before I had any intent to write in this maner, and was quite out of my memory, vntill I had written the Passion of Christ, when immediately it came into my remembrance

By claiming that the title and many of her works came to her in a dream, she makes it seem as though many of her works were sent to her directly from God. She writes about topics such as empowerment for women, why women should be forgiven for Eve's actions, as well as singing praises for women who possess a lot of power; in claiming that these works came to her from God himself, she is giving power to her works that would not be there during this time in history if she were to claim that the thoughts and ideas were all her own

    2. She argues that women are the true followers of Christ because he valued them highly in his own life

Another extremely controversial topic during her time. It is clear why women view her as the first true feminist author and look up to her works in such a way

    3. “Eve’s Apology in Defense of Women,”

I wonder if this work was seen as quite controversial during the time that it was released, as Eve's creation story was the main contributor and justification for the subjugation of women for all of time. To write from Eve's point of view in defense of women could not have been well received

    4. it aimed to attract the support and funding of powerful and influential women, such as Queen Anne of Denmark and Margret Clifford, Countess of Cumberland

By writing about and dedicating her works to powerful women, she hopes that she would be able to earn the patronage of these women in order to establish her career and no longer have to rely on men

    5. each dedicated to a different woman

I find it very interesting that not only did a woman create this wonderful work of literature that is still read and appreciated today, but that she went out of her way to dedicate these poems to women and God alone

    1. Ill is it for him who must suffer longing for his loved one.

The longing for a lost loved one can be said to be some of the worst pain that people could be forced to undergo

    2. Ever I suffer the torment of my exile.

In old English literature, exile is considered one of the worst punishments one could be subjected to. Why is this? I wonder it has to do with separation from ones friends and family, the church, or some other reason

    3. If a man sits in despair, deprived of joy, with gloomy thoughts in his heart; it seems to him that there is no end to his suffering.

If the man were to simply sit and wallow in his own despair, he will trap himself there in a pool of his own negative thoughts. The power of positive thinking and all that. Remember that God exists and have a plan and the gloom dissipates

    4. What does the landsman that wantons in luxury,

It is interesting to see how the Old Sailor now views people who love upon the land as those who love in luxury, even though during this time in England many people were simply people who worked the land of the Lord that owned it. This, to the old Sailor, can still be considered luxury when compared to the lonely and isolating life he lived at sea

    5. Kisses his liege, and lays on his knee Head and hands as in happy days, When he thanked for a boon his bountiful giver.

The simple possession of a master or "boon" for someone in the Wanderer's position bring him such joy. I ma curious as to what the source of his joy is? Is it the knowledge that he has someone to care for him financially? Is it a sense of purpose that having a master gives him?

    6. He realizes that times are different and that it is fate that has led him to the position he is currently in.

I find it interesting that the Wanderer seeks a new master in order to continue his life, meaning that his life is contingent on whether or not he has someone to serve. He is able to find his own purpose in life by reflecting on his past experiences, realizing that fate/God has placed him in his current position
