    1. Philip Levine, “They Feed They Lion

      I had the honor of hearing Phillip Levine read this poem and others during his visit to the University of Alabama in the 80s. This is one of my favorites.

    1. I'm not familiar with the this play nor playwright. Sean O'Casey was one of the first to write a play about Dublin. Learn more about him on the Irishplayography.com

    2. Two forces are working in her mind—one, through the circumstances of her life, pulling her back; the other, through the influence of books she has read, pushing her forward. The opposing forces are apparent in her speech and her manners, both of which are degraded by her environment, and improved by her acquaintance—slight though it be—with literature.

      Great foreshadowing here of things to come.

    3. A teapot is on the hob and a frying-pan stands inside the fender

      Interesting use of 'hob' and 'fender' in this description. I hadn't heard these words used for these items before.
