    1. Tonight the moon is very bright.I have not seen it for over thirty years, so today when I saw it I felt in unusually high spirits. I begin to realize that during the past thirty-odd years I have been in the dark; but now I must be extremely careful. Otherwise why should that dog at the Chao house have looked at me twice?I have reason for my fear.

In this part, the narrator is reading a part of the diary: "the moon is very bright". In the Chinese culture, the moon means brightness and harmony and luck etc… We can think that the former ill friend was suspecting something in the facility in which he was detained. We already know that the story was published during the Boxer evolution which means that the life of foreigners were threatened by the government as well as the population. Perhaps that sick friend were a Chinese citizen who did not agree with the government and were therefore kept in a rehabilitation facility by the Chinese government until he decided to change his mind like we can see right now with the Uyghurs.

    1. “I appreciate your coming such a long way to see us,” he said, “but my brother recovered some time ago and has gone elsewhere to take up an official post.” Then, laughing, he produced two volumes of his brother’s diary, saying that from these the nature of his past illness could be seen, and that there was no harm in showing them to an old friend.

In this sentence, we see that the narrator went to see an old friend that is seriously ill. However, when arrived there, he/she noticed that the friend was heal and left the town for an official post. This story counts the life of someone that was supposedly mad and healed from it. Many questions comes to our head after reading it. How can someone with mental illness history can rehired to work for the government? Was that person really mad? or Is it not the sibling who stayed at home who is mad? and the last but not the least, does mad have another connotation in this sentence? After analysis of the historic period in which this story "A Madman's Diary" has been written, we noticed that it was a period of repression. In fact, all the Chinese population who did not agree with the government were severely reprimanded and seen differently. Mad mean someone that is unable to think in a clear and sensible way. We can assume that for the Chinese government at that time someone who was not thinking like them was mad. In other words, this sentence is talking about someone who does not share the vision and idea of his/her government.

    1. If it falls on the outcropOf a stumbling tongue It breaksUngatherably

The thing that we notice the most here is the personification "It falls". It is evident that a word cannot fall so what is the author trying to say here. According to me, this sentence shows that Words have power to influence the one using it and also the one listening to it. The last verse "it breaks, ungatherably" is implying that the outcome of the word once of the mouth depends on the purpose of its usage, so it will hurt if you use it badly "stumbling tongue" and won't if you use it correctly.

    1. When he awoke, the dinosaur was still there.

The sentence is separated in two. The adverbe "still" in the second part of the sentence is emphasizing that it is a continuity. Something happened with the dinosaur before the character or the person slept and when the person woke up the dinosaur did not leave.
