    1. Economic impacts will probably include less income as destinations degrade, tourism decreases, and tourism-related services and travelling become more expensive. These impacts will minimize employment and self-employment opportunities.

This will be interesting to consider again once COVID is more contained and the tourism industry is (hopefully) booming again. With this increase in tourism though, the natural land will suffer more.

    1. . Men, on the other hand, have a higher risk of morbidity and mortality during natural disasters because of their social role as protector and defender of family and household, while women are more at risk due to cultural restrictions.

Wow this is incredibly interesting to read. It is very evident that men and women are forced to "give and take" in different areas when a natural disaster hits. Interesting to see how men are more likely to be physically sacrificed, but women are more likely to be mentally and emotionally sacrificed.

    1. coined the term "biopiracy" to describe the extracting, patenting and selling of women’s local knowledge for the benefit of industry and research institutions.

I have never heard this term before. Biopiracy seems to be a very important issue that I haven't been introduced to until now. Biopiracy is extremely disrespectful to different genders, cultures, and histories. Exploitation in this way feels very wrong and corrupt.

    1. Climate change is linked with racism, genocide, patriarchy and other such systemic oppressions that have unfolded over centuries. We’re facing many other crises like the biodiversity crisis, a food crisis, an unemployment crisis, and right now a pandemic which is also a result of the way we treat the earth.

This is very scary but accurate. Understanding that the issue of climate change is not simply black and white, but rather that it intersects with other socioeconomic issues shows just how important it is that we prioritize change. It's not as simple as changing the physical environment.

    2. Right now it’s difficult. My usual activism would be direct action, physical strikes, going to conferences and events and putting pressure as a physical presence

This seems to be the case for all types of activism due to COVID. The pandemic has made it incredibly hard for us to connect as a community and when all the riots and protesting were happening it was extremely anxiety inducing to have to factor in the possible spread and contraction of COVID. Group direct action and physical strikes are so beneficial for us to connect over common issues, and the pandemic has hurt this process so much. The internet helps, but doesn't always satisfy the group effort that is needed to enact change.
