      For training see Mental Health First Aid website www.mhfa.ca. They have been offering training since 2006 in Canada and the courses are adapted to the Canadian context. Since 2010 it's been a program of Mental Health Commission of Canada and offered in every province and territory.

      I scanned this resource and find it practical. I can see using it with a small group of student in a resource room setting. I can also see using it in a 1:1 setting or facilitating a parent group with it so that they can help their children.

    1. Coping Cards

      I have used the 'old school' way of coping cards and found great success with a fourteen year old struggling with anxiety. It was as simple as a set of business card size cards with helping coping statements written on them that he could pull out in challenging situations. I think that this has applications for professionals as well in conflict situations or challenging negotiations for example. If anyone else has used these or something like them I'd be interested in learning how and the response.

    1. COURSE ACTIVITIES/REQUIREMENTS

      I strongly suggest you put these due dates in your personal calendar so that you stay on track. The group inquiry project in particular will require good communication and attention to due dates.

    1. Assessment is an act of interpretation, not just measurement.

      There is a subjectiveness to assessment yes but well created rubrics reduce this. Love peer review to highlight the interpretive nature of assessment.

    2. Online teaching should not be downgraded into ‘facilitation’.

      I don't think I understand this - facilitation over 'sage on the stage' is preferred in inquiry based learning environments. How can online teaching be downloaded into facilitation? It wouldn't be teaching in that case. Maybe that's the point?

    3. Online teaching need not be complicit with the instrumentalisation of education.

      I agree - the online environment gives time to learners to think before they 'speak'/post. A reflective, inquiry-based approach is indeed possible. It depends on intentional design. Good pedagogy/andragogy.
