This would be a really fun activity during a conference. For example, during the next ASCB meeting, researchers could co-review a talk and preprint during a session (asynchronously or together).

Oh but I love scribbling (and handwritten notes are more personal, individual, generative, and all of a sudden are machine readable too). This is going to be a critical feature in the next gen of ereaders I bet!

yeah but what about the open-source philosophy that good software does one or a couple of things really well and interoperates cleanly with other modular software? One think I love about Readwise is that it gives me flexibility about the source(s) of my reading and I know I can access the highlights (maybe notes) later. On the other hand, it will be super useful to be able to go back to the context/ location of the highlight directly.
Whenever you tag or add an annotation to a resurfaced highlight, you can see that update reflected in the margin of the original document (and vice versa).
Yes! Will this include margin notes taken with digital ink that is then recognized by OCR? (e.g. like myscript/kobo is doing). That would be truly transformative. Much more personal and flexible than typing some stuff into the margins.

The discussion of a personalmental health problem is likely to decrease an applicant’schances of acceptance into a program.
It would probably be better if this implicit penalty went away in the future. Or is it better for this type of personal (vulnerable) information be shared at the stage of an interview or rotation, with individual PIs who have demonstrated receptivity to talking openly about mental health (then the student is also interviewing the PI about their lab environment).
