The practice of making a dead world habitable is called terraforming.
i think this is interesting because i never knew there was a term for this
history that fetishizes and oppresses black bodies
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
puts certain features on a pedestal while ignoring or even praising the lack of “less favorable” ethnic features
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is hitting all the points
It’s a subtle implication that there’s the normal type of beauty and then there’s the other less than kind of beauty
this entire passage is just great. I'm very passionate about this because i have storiesss on how people have given me backhanded compliments. alsooo aishwarya rai is a goddess, she's in a bunch of bollywood films that i've watched. but this highlighted piece here, i just wanted to say that this is basically like if you're not white, then you're automatically less beautiful. :(
I am too ethnic for white beauty standards and too ambiguous for ethnic beauty standards
beauty is in the eye of the beholder
“what are you?” (or the “but where are you really from?”) conversation. On the one hand, there’s nothing particularly wrong with the question itself (though depending on its delivery, it can be way rude and off-putting),
i completely agree with this!!!!!! its literally so disrespectful to me when someone asks this, like there are a million different ways to go about asking this in a nicer way!!!!!!!!!
But unleashing them on a nonnative habitat risks letting them establish themselves as an invasive species that can disturb local ecosystems.
I find this interesting because it makes sense. i'd never think that releasing exotic animals in their unnatural environments might dustup local ecosystems but its true. it might disturb the naturalness and the comfortability of the environment its being let out in.
In the past, I had a habit of minimizing anti-Asian racism because it had been drilled into me early on that racism against Asians didn’t exist. Anytime that I raised concerns about a racial comment, I was told that it wasn’t racial. Anytime I brought up an anti-Asian incident, a white person interjected that it was a distraction from the more important issue (and there was always a more important issue)
I feel like this is such a strange concept because, even though I also agree that growing up, racism against asians wasn't really made into a main problem, it was always something else that the media blew up. I have to say that this is kind of dehumanizing. I feel bad because I feel like she thought that their problems weren't as important.
She said she was worried about me. She had heard stories of how Asians wearing masks have been harassed in Europe and the United States. “In Korea,” she told me, “we look at you funny if you’re not wearing a mask in public. We think you’re being selfish.”
I found this interesting because around the world, people had different reactions to the spread of covid. In the beginning of the passage, the author said she was worried about her cousin for being where the virus originally started, but now in this quote, her cousin said she was worried about her because non asian people were being harasses for taking precautions for the virus. They were both worried about each other but for different reasons.
